I have not seen this musical and because I will not be able to see it at the Public I am very excited about the prospect of a transfer (link below) to the Eugene O'Neill. New work is ALWAYS welcome by me in the world of musical theatre. I love new work and a good revival, but hate those dreadful composer songbook shows. I think that this is the kind of musical Broadway have. Personally, I love the off-beat, original musicals (Avenue Q is the best thing since sliced bread; go see it if you haven't and if you have, lead people to it). Here's to hoping that the money comes through for this ambitious, original project that I hope to get to see in the near future. Caroline Broadway Transfer May Be Fueled by HBO Money (Playbill.com)
I think a Broadway transfer would be a mistake. Maybe an open ended commercial Off-Broadway run could work but it would seem as if squeaking in on Broadway before the Tonys would be an over-reaction to Kushnermania in the HBO afterglow. And I'm one of the theatergoers who LOVED Caroline.
I wholeheartedly agree with Namo. To be fair, I wasn't as blown away by the show as Namo, but if it comes to Broadway, it won't last a month. It's more than fine, where it is.
Yeah, god forbid HBO should bask in the success of bringing something of substance to the small screen. Now, why don't you just go back to wondering who's going to be voted off this week, MM?
I am with you Namo. When was the last time a major media company put this much money up for anything other than banal crap (The Reagans?). Good for HBO for taking chances and trying to heighten our collective cultural awarness, not to mention the social awarness aspect.
SueleenGay, you misinterpret my post. I'm neither criticizing HBO nor referring to AIA, just taking a wait-and-see perspective on their COC transfer to Broadway. "May" commits to nothing.
