Did anyone get to see Kristin and Idina on THEATER TALK? Ok, so I'm posting this like 1 minute after the show ended, but you'll all see it tomorrow!

Kristin Chenowith is so cute, and Idina is very beautiful and soft-spoken. But you can't blame her for not wanting to talk very much. As Kristin said: "You don't talk during the day". She says its a constant struggle to maintain their voices with Idina's belty notes and Kristin's high soprano notes that can sometime fall into her "lower register".

They also noted the emotional drain that occurs each night (sometimes twice a day), in taking their characters through this 2 hour plus journey of finding their characters and evolving on stage. Must be quite a challenge.

When asked about a rivalry, they simply stated that their are good for each other and they can feed off each other's energies to get through the performances. They have a mutual respect and understanding which is nice. MICHAEL RIEDEL kept wanting to push Kristin on the spot by mentioning that their will be a rivalry and joking about how their friendship will change if Kristin wins the Tony. Always causing trouble, that one.

Anyways, just reporting what I can remember from 5 minutes ago. Good interview, too bad they didn't sing.

I actually thought Reidel was on good behavior (despite reminding everyone, twice, that he's the columnist for the Post -- and suggesting a power trip that comes with it). The questions -- about the rarity of more complex female roles, performance chemistry, how the show evolved from SF, etc., were less gossipy than is his trademark. And his Ed McMahon, Haskins, got to say 15 words, as opposed to her usual 8. MR clearly likes these two, and what they're doing in the show. The talk of the toll the show takes was poignant, as the week is ending minus Kristen. Interestingly enough, though looking stunning, Menzel seemed almost a bit hoarse. But wasn't THEATRE TALK taped within a day of having to blow the roof off the Ed Sullivan theater where Letterman tapes? Gotta love her.

I was half asleep while watching it last night so can someone tell me if Riedel asked if Kristin if she would be mad when Idina wins the Tony? Did I hear him say that? Updated On: 11/22/03 at 10:16 AM

Yep. I'm no MR apologist, but it didn't really come out nasty. In a way, it cut through all the Idina vs. Kristin stuff -- exacerbated by the reviewers (Brantley) who have made Chenoweth's performance the (only) event. It let them address the lack of competition between them.

"joking about how their friendship will change if Kristin wins the Tony."
He actually suggested that it would be Idina who wins. But he made referrence to the fact that Kristin has been the one to carry the weight on her shoulders for past shows she has been in, and now it's a little easier to handle because Idina is getting just as much press and critiquing. Kristin agreed that it's nice to be able to share the spotlight. :)
Kristin was certainly much more responsive than Idina, but I think that's just the way their personalities are. Both ladies were very poised and well spoken; which is nice. :)

Sorry, must have heard the Tony winner thing wrong. My mistake.

I did notice that Idina's voice was pretty hoarse. I guess that's what happens when you're a belter though. Let's just hope she doesn't poop out too soon. Afterall, belting isn't the greatest thing if one wants to maintain a good singing voice for years to come. But then again, I don't really belt, so I can't speak from experience...
