Betty and Adolph would close their cabaret evenings with Make Someone Happy. It was a simple and utterly beguiling way to end lovely evenings.

Was the script for Do Re Mi published by Random House? I have seen a listing for it in an old advertisement, but have never actually seen a copy, nor did any scans of used book sites turn up anything. Any help?

Kanin based the libretto on a short novel that he wrote in 1955.

There's a really fine rendition of this in the Encores! recording of DO RE MI...the one starring Nathan Lane. "Make Someone Happy" was brilliantly sung in that production by Brian Stokes Mitchell.

The songwriters made some nice extra catch some years ago by selling it to Pillsbury (or was it Duncan Hines?) for the TV ads that featured "Bake Someone Happy!"

Last year at the Encores Broadway Bash, they ended the show with "Make Someone Happy" as a tribute to Adolph Green.

Re Jule Styne

1. You could always tell A Styne show by the overture - Gypsy probably being the best Broadway overture ever composed ( Mack & Mabel being a close 2 nd)

2. He always stole from himself & was shamelesss about it. Melodies from 1 show turned up in another

DOLLY, i read ROXY's post as meaning in "Broadway Overtures" he ranked Gypsy first and Mack & Mabel second. You obviously read it as in "Styne Overtures" he mistakenly listed Mack & Mabel.

Do Re Mi is a show I hope noone tries to make a major revival of. "Make Somone Happy" is about the only real great song from that show.

But I gues if Melanie wants to star in a revival............

1. I mention Mack & Mabel as 2 nd best overture written

2. Re gramatical structure, give me a break. I did not realize I was back in school trying to impress a teacher.
