I'm glad Jonathan Larson stuck to writing and not singing.

Were they playing the karaoke cd as the background music on that section? The "no day but today" theme they played like 3 times sounded like the end of a TV show theme song.

They did not do anything on THE CIVIL WAR? I wonder why.

They also could have done more on PHANTOM and CATS.

"They did not do anything on THE CIVIL WAR? I wonder why."

Really? You do?
They did do a lot on Cats though, and on Cameron Mackintosh.

*sigh*
Nice that all you can get from that was that Jonathan wasn't a good singer. Way to boost the seriousness of it.

As much as people hate CATS and Phantom, they are very important parts of Broadway history.

I think there should have been less about Wicked and more about the older shows. Don't get me wrong I love it but I love other shows too, and they used about twice as much time on wicked as they did with the other shows and it's still so new! Was pleased with the Cabaret section though re: Rent on the Broadway documentary Would've been cool to see Avenue Q on there, Les Miserables deserved more time, as did a lot of other shows. They should've made a part 3...

I did a LOT of squealing during the Cabaret segment. It made me really happy to see all of that stuff. re: Rent on the Broadway documentary
Miss that one, too.

I thought tonite was part 3? I thought there should have been more time on the Les Mis, Phantom, Miss Saigon section-they kinda just brushed over some great shows. I loved the Jerry Orbach commentary though. I had never heard the story about the director who died opening night, I found it very reminiscent of Jonathan Larson and Rent...

I told you the Jonathan Larson segment was great. Hey, Emcee.......were you jumping up and down when they showed Adam? re: Rent on the Broadway documentary I have already stated my opinions on what I wished they would have cut and added so I won't go there again unless asked to.

seriously, did anyone think that sounded like some version of the music other than the cast recording? it sounded canned like a karaoke cd.

I agree bronxbound, I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't the OBC recording

actually, it didn't sound bad at all. it was a great segue from Larson's take on it, to AP's version...

but then again, i get the feeling that you'd have disliked Cole Porter himself singing "Anything Goes"

I have seen it 5 billion times already so it didn't really effect me the way it did when I first saw it (I had tears running down my face), especially when the director of RENT sounded like he was about to cry when talking about Jonathan.

I missed the first hour of the show. Did they have a section for the Original production of Chicago?

Ok Good. Did they actually show clips of the production?

Yes, if I am correct, they showed clips of the original with Jerry Orbach, the revival with Bebe Neuwirth (sp?) and Anne Reinking (sp?) and then the movie. I thought it was one of the best segments

All I Care About as sung by Orbach, and Chita and Gwen dancing (as well as other Roxies and Velmas).

Seeing Chita and Gwen do "Hot Honey Rag" was amazing.

They SHOULD have mentioned:

FALSETTOS - the first Broadway show to deal with AIDS

URINETOWN - the first show after 9/11/2001 - it made it OK to laugh.

AVENUE Q - the show that beat WICKED!

I guess the filmmaker only likes big glitzy shows.

I agree Jon, I didn't really see the method to what shows they chose to feature and those they chose to ignore...I could obviously see why some featured shows were influential, but I think they left alot out and added some fluff material. They could have included Assassins in the Sondheim section and its postponment due to 9/11 (or maybe its just that Assassins is my favorite Sondheim...)
