Was this a rumor? or is this true about a revival of La Cage? It would be great if there was. This musical has really great music to it. I never got to see the origanal.
Albin never wastes an opportunity to say something evil about TGC. (Incidentally, her "Parade Passes By" was the highlight of last night's PBS special.
So, since HELLO, DOLLY!" is also know as "The World's Happiest Musical (TWHM)" (courtesy of Dollypop), and "LA CAGE AUX FOLLES" is also know as "The World's Gayest Musical (TWGM)" (courtesy of Albin), what do we call MAME?
"Do you know ChrisLovesShows?" "Yes. Why, yes he does!"
I would love to hear what Maury Yeston's take on it would have been. The working title was, I believe , Queen of Basin Street ( or something like that) . All I know is he was working on a version of La Cage when Hermans came out & he dropped his version. I wonder how many, if any , songs were written for it & it the songs would up elsewhere
Poor delusional Dollypop...let me enlighten you on the film version of TWHM.
Many consider the movie "Hello Dolly!" to be the last great MGM musical. It was released by 20th Century Fox but there were many former MGM talents involved with the production. It was directed by none other than Gene Kelly. It went on to be nomintated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture.
Many critics commented on Barbra Streisand being too young for the title role but many, including the composer himself, Jerry Herman, had postive things to say about her performance including her magnificent vocals.

I repeat: There has never been a movie made of HELLO, DOLLY!
(OT: My birthday is coming up and a very dear friend has sent me a lithograph of Oliver Smith's original set design for the Harmonia Gardens. It's a true work of art. I plan to hang it over my living room sofa.)
