I dont know if we had a thread about this yet, but I can't even begin to say how excited I am about having this show come back to broadway. I really hope that it is done well, I think Christina Applegate is going to be sublime in this part. Its one of my favourite musicals right now, and I think that it will do very well. Any thoughts?
I can't say that I have a whole lot of objectivity when it comes to pieces of Mr. Fosse's - he's one of my creative heroes. A curiosity I have is what is Ms. Applegate's theatrical background? I have no reason to think she can't do the role, I'm just curious.
I don't think she has much theatrical background or vocal training - although I'm sure she's getting that as we speak. She can dance though, or so we're told.
Not that this really counts for anything but I saw a movie in which she lifted her leg right to her face, so I suspect she does have a lot of dance training.
" ...the happiness in the tune convinces me that I'm not afraid."
Isn't Wayne Cilento choreographing this version? It's going to be hard for many of the critics to put the 1986 revival that Fosse directed and choreographed out of their heads, I fear.
All I know is that Ms. Applegate is gorgeous, and I am looking forward to seeing her opposite Will Ferrell in "Anchorman", which looks hysterical in the trailers.
So will Cilento try to re-create the Fosse moves or start from scratch? It is hard to imagine BIG SPENDER or any of the numbers without some of the Fosse flair.
