I was able to see Dance of the Vampires in NYC on Broadway, and absolutely LOVED it!!! I don't know why the critics hated it so much, I guess is was just the fact that they obviously had a star that they could try to crush, and if the star got bad reviews, then people probably wouldn't want to see the show. I thought just the opposite, I loved Michael Crawford, his portrayal of Count Von Krolock was completely different from that of Steve Barton, but then again, you have to remember that in many ways the Broadway Von Krolock was a completely different character than that of the German Von Krolock! The show had and amazing score, killer scenery, eye-popping lighting, and amazing costumes!!! And over all of the other amazing technical features, it had one of the most amazing casts to ever perform on a Broadway stage (the ensemble especially)!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, I have seen the german version, and feel that they should try bringing it to Broadway in its original form, just translate it. I think that they would be suprised a how people would react to it in more of a dramatic form. Yes, it still has its humor, but it is not as juvenile as the Broadway productions humor (even though the sponge was HILARIOUS)!!!! I just loved it so much, and wish they would try the other version, and give it another chance. Also take into consideration the fact that it is holding its place as one of Broadway top three shows in the Audience choice awards. People are still voting for it for it almost four months after it closed. I think that if it would have still been open today, that it may have taken a lot of the TONY awards that Hairspray is most likely going to win!!! Thats just what I think, how about you?!?!?

Agree that Tanz is much better than Dance, but I still enjoy them both!!!!

Posted: 5/24/03 at 8:38pmi think if dotv had stayed open during the tonys it had a good chance of getting some. i have never seen tanz so i have no idea which is better but i suppose because i saw dotv first i will always like that more than tanz. anyway its a shame that dotv closed it was the best out there and unless it gets revived there will never be anything as good.
