So, my friend was asking me this question. She wants to do a solo next year for dance competitions to a song from a musical. The captain of our dance team did one to "Life of the Party" last year and everyone thought it was awesome. So, I was just wondering if you could think of some songs that could be good to dance to, in terms of jazz, ballet, etc. It doesn't matter if they are slow or fast. Thanks!!

I think "The Nuttycracker suite" would make a great solo

Music & The Mirror from A Chorus Line

Almost anything from Sweet Charity, especially "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This" or "Rhythm of Life"

I've always thought that Audra McDonald's version of "Stars and The Moon" would be good to dance to.

Also check out the cast recording of Swing! the Musical
"Phantom of the Opera" may make a pleasing ballet solo.

My 3 year old (the hippy chick you see in my icon pic rDance Songs ) currently thinks that "Popular" from Wicked is the best dance song in the world...lol...Not sure how much of a recommendation that is, though...At least it's up-beat, and could be "cute", if that's what your friend is going for...

There's the dancing song in Hello Dolly, "now that i'm dancing" or something like that. that could be a cute number about teaching people to dance and then going wild with it. there's also "Dance of the Vampires", haha. And you actually could get that music on CD from the old website by downloading the demo.

The dance is jazz I think. I'm pretty sure that is all she does.

Overtures to either Candide or On the Twentieth Century have many wonderful possibilities. Another fun (and very 70s) number is Style from The Magic Show.

You should also look for dance mixes/versions of songs. Harajuku is a dance group that covers many Broadway songs as dance music.

You can prob find stuff on (legal) file sharing sites.
