I was watching an episode of I Love Lucy and they went to see Over The Teacups and they made a big deal over it. Was it a real play on Broadway? I tried IBBD with no luck. Anyone have any info on this play? I tried looking for it on yahoo but I just found a book by the same name. Thanks
Wasn't that the episode where Fred asks Lucy to buy Ethel a birthday present, and then the girls have a spat when Ethel gets a glimpse of those hostess pants?
OVER THE TEACUP was a drawingroom comedy written by Lamears Seaton. The original cast included ZaSuPitts, Madeline Pugh, Darnell Westcott and Regina Wentworth. Directed by Thaddeus Kamen, it ran only a few performances in the 1050's. Actually, it was a sequel to a somewhat more successful play called UNDER THE RAINDROP.
I am looking here for the SAME reason. I watched the I Love Lucy episode as well. I also checked the Internet Broadway Database, and I found no reference to a play. I did find an 1890 book written by Oliver Wendell Holmes with that title.
