Which year had the Best Broadway Season (for Musicals)?

2003: HAIRSPRAY, AMOUR, MAN OF LA MANCHA, GYPSY, NINE, MOVIN' OUT, etc.

2002: OKLAHOMA, INTO THE WOODS, URINETOWN, THOROUGHLLY MODERN MILLIE, MAMMA MIA!, SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS, etc.

2001: THE PRODUCERS, FULL MONTY, SEUSSICAL, ROCKY HORROR, 42nd STREET, FOLLIES, BELLS ARE RINGING, JANE EYRE, etc.

2000: CONTACT, KISS ME KATE, THE DEAD, MUSIC MAN, WILD PARTY, AIDA, SWING, etc.

1999: PETER PAN, YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN, FOSSE, LITTLE ME, PARADE, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, FOOTLOOSE, etc.

1998: CABARET, 1776, THE LION KING, RAGTIME, SCARLET PIMPERNEL, SIDE SHOW, etc.

1997: THE LIFE, STELL PIER, CHICAGO, JECKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, CANDIDE, etc.

1996: RENT, FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, BIG, KING AND I, BRING IN THE NOISE/FUNK, VICTOR/VICTORIA, etc.

1995: SUNSET BLVD, SHOW BOAT, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, HOW TO SUCCEED, etc.

1994: DAMN YANKEES, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, PASSION, SHE LOVES ME, GREASE, CAROUSEL, etc.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I would say either 2002 or 1998.

Capt'n, I know you're joking with your selections of the "best" years.

Bulldog,
Depending on what you meant by that:

1) I meant which Broadway Years was the best in the past 10 years
2) Although PETER PAN is my favorite, that year was not the best in my opinion for a Broadway season.
