Hi All,

I was just accepted into my dream MBA program at NYU for an August orientation. Although Im estatic, the coronavirus has dampened my enthusiasm. What do people think about coming to the city now? Do you still think its worth going to NYU considering the high cost of tuitition and possible cancellations of activities, events, networking??

Congratulations! I think if it isn't safe, NYU and other schools will continue the virtual route until it is safe. If this truly is your dream school and you want to attend, then don't let a temporary hiccup impact a decision that will impact you for the rest of your professional life. You have to think long term as an Alum and what the school can offer in terms of networking and activities both as a student and as a graduate. I also have an MBA and was given similar advice when I was in your shoes. I have no regrets about the school I chose. Good luck!

I think MANY colleges will not be having on campus activities (dorms, classes, etc) in the fall.  Whether they will attempt a fall semester on line vs plan to push freshmen off until Spring has yet to be seen.

I'm not sure I'd send my 18 year old to ANY college campus yet..

However - have you had any contact since your acceptance letter?  Try contacting NYU to see if they have any insight yet.  (My guess is they don't, however.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

First off, congrats! I was also accepted to a graduate program at NYU for the fall. I've chosen to defer because I much prefer in-person classes, and I doubt internships and other experiential learning will happen. NYU also comes at a very high price tag, and for me, I'd rather wait a year. For what it's worth, a lot of current NYU students, both undergraduate and graduate, are very upset with the administration for not giving partial refunds for this semester, when internships, housing, etc. are cancelled.

Thank you all for your thoughts and words of encouragement. I sent a letter to the adcoms hoping to defer so we shall see what they say. Hopefully they’ll allow it. I feel like for the price the value isn’t great for what could be potentially limited opportunities
