Chicago Theater in June

I will be in Chicago June 2nd thru the 5th. Was looking at my theater options. I really have no interest in Hamilton again. But I might check out the exhibit. I am not sure if I want to sit thru Winers Tale at the Goodman. Has anyone seen it? Anyone have opinions or comments about what is playing at Steppenwolf? I seem to be there that week when things are closing or opening.

THE CHILDREN and MS. BLAKK FOR PRESIDENT will both be playing Steppenwolf when you're in town. 

 

WEST SIDE STORY is at the Lyric Opera. 

 

SIX will be at Chicago Shakespeare 

 

Lookingglass has Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN 

 

Mercury Theatre is showing LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

West Side Story is not playing that week.    Just starting to look into SIX.. but I don't know if it is my thing.   I really don't know much about it.  Also looking into Ms Blakk.  That could be good or awful.

Falsettos is on tour, playing in the Loop.

The Cubs have several home games at Wrigley Field during your stay. First baseman Tony Rizzo always puts on a memorable performance. I often re-read the Sports Illustrated article about Rizzo giving a naked pep talk in the locker room during the World Series.

Southern Gothic is still running. Would highly recommend that in addition to what was mentioned. Just an incredibly unique show that you aren't going to see anywhere else.

I was wishing Rizzo would do a (discreetly) nude Sports Illustrated video like the one Jake Arrietta did on the pitcher's mound a few years ago.
They used to do one a year. Don't know if they still do.

David Cromer's production of "NEXT TO NORMAL" is playing at Writers Theatre as is Caryl Churchill's "A NUMBER". Writers Theatre is probably Chicago's leading LORT theatre whos name isn't Steppenwolf or Goodman.   It's up in Glencoe, a short METRA commuter train ride from the city. The theatre is almost right next to the train station.

If you're looking at a smaller theatre you can't EVER go wrong by Remy Bumppo.  They are doing a Steve Deitz play while you are there. This is a company of Chicago actors who have never let me down.  As good as any "professional" actors I've ever seen in New York or London.

The Winter's Tale at Goodman is FANTASTIC. I'm a big fan of the play... in that I'm picky not that I love all productions... and it's the best version of the many versions I've seen. However. It's still The Winter's Tale. 

Ms. Blakk, given who's involved should be really fantastic. 

MARY SHELLEY’S FRANKENSTEIN at Lookingglass theater should be... something. I've not seen it yet... and it might be weird... but it'll be memorable. 

The Adventures of Auggie March at The Court is really supposed to be something. If you're interested at all in Saul Bellow or the novel itself, I think it's something to consider. Plus you can visit the really tremendous campus of University of Chicago and grab some fancy food and drinks in Hyde Park.

I think I am gravitating towards the Winters Tale.  But really.. nothing is really grabbing my attention.
