Although Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has a very loud fan base, Fontana isn’t a household name in the same way...

Crazy ex-Girlfriend has a tiny fan base and considering he hasn't played Greg in 3 years.....I don't think that's really on anyone's mind as he plays Michael/Dorothy.

I said loud, not big. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend never got many viewers, but the people who watched it absolutely loved it. One of the major surprises of the publicity material for Tootsie was the fact that discussion of Fontana's other roles primarily focused on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, with very little about Frozen (You'd think people would be interested to hear what Fontana has to say about Frozen 2!) Maybe it was because Fontana's role in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was far better, but it's odd to see the billion-dollar blockbuster consistently ignored in favour of the cult hit...

None of that is actually true, but sure. Do you.

If this reply is written to dismiss Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and my comments about its cult status, than actually look at the interviews  Fontana did, such as THIS one https://www.vulture.com/2019/04/santino-fontana-tootsie-broadway-encounter.html. In all the major interviews Fontana does, he says two sentences at most about Frozen - the billion dollar animated hit with a sequel on the way. In contrast, there is a bit more on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Popularity, success and quality are all  subjective - we’ve spent much of this thread discussing how a musical can make at least $1.1 million  every week and still be considered a disappointment. However, if you look through the press for Tootise, there are more mentions of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (even if it’s just to say “Santino Fontana, Star Of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) than Frozen.,,

Perhaps the weekday shows are much less popular. (Some of my group was in the balcony, and some were in orchestra, so I got a good overall sense of how the whole theater looked.)"

Maybeel -BMC? LOL..again seeing the show with a group? You're a shill! Don't take it personally unless you're a producer-investor but the show is not selling just look at the grosses > (down -21.7% ~ gross only 68% this week) and the availabletickets this and next week.

Please quit attacking me because I love Be More Chill.  I don't understand these personal attacks.  The only fans who get bullied in this message board are the Be More Chill fans.  I have paid to see the show 4 times (not a "shill"Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/5/19 -- it was 100 % wonderful each time.  I have not loved a show this much since RENT. (Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that--are people also belittled here for liking RENT?)

Okay lets be civil here, everyone gets "bullied" on there board when they have an opinion that differs from the majority. This season its people who love BMC, and those who speak anything bad about Hadestown. Last season it was Frozen fans, and before that it was Anastasia fans and anyone who had anything negative to say about Dear Evan Hansen. It comes with the territory, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't express yourself.

Robbie was just being snarky as from time to time there are literal producers the post anonymously positive comments about their productions. Its when people start threads like "The Prom..Go See IT!" or "Hadestown Get Your Tickets Now!" when there already are review, previews and various other production specific threads. Overall though his comment is accurate, the show appears to be bleeding money. Initially many on this board thought that the show was going to fail from the start, especially with its initial pricing that seemed to overestimate the demand for the show, which should be relatively cheap to produce.  Then to the surprise of many the show seemed to find and sustain a profitable audience for the past 2 months. This was to the point no one expected it to be a show in danger because a lack of love from Tony nominators. Based on its first couple months many expected the show to sell well through at least the summer, and not become the first Tony casualty, which at this point seems likely. Many thought it would be The Prom closing on June 16th if it didn't get any major awards, but Be More Chills grosses this week seem to counter that argument.
