Hi, I’m 14 and completely obsessed with Chess (although I have never been able to see the show) and was thinking about writing to Michael Ball. I’ve never written any letters to actors or actresses before but I would really like to write him a letter. Does anybody know if it is worth it and if he will reply? And should I write to the theatre or to his ‘fan’ address?

Ps, is it rude to ask for something back, like a signed photo or something?

Thanks in advance x

If you want to write him a letter, by all means, do.  It's not a good idea to ask for an autographed photo or anything in return.  Many performers do it automatically to express their gratitude to their fans, sometimes a head shot, sometimes a photo postcard, sometimes a note...depends on the actor.  Most performers love hearing from their fans, but I wouldn't encourage anyone to write to a performer if they are only expecting something in return.  I've only written to two performers (both in London, coincidentally).  One sent back an autographed photo card and the other didn't respond.  Either way, I was happy I wrote to them.

Thank you for the advice. At least I know what to write now.
