After over 120 visits to the theatre in 2017, I thought I'd     take a few minutes to contemplate my absolute favourite musicals, favourite plays, and favourite performances of the year. I've seen so many amazing productions and performances but have selected the top 4 in each category. (A few notes: I saw far more musicals than plays so many other people's favourite plays & performances in them will include things I did not get to see; these are my personal favourites, not an attempt to suggest they are the "best" as that is totally subjective.)
favourite musicals:
FOLLIES (National Theatre)
THE LIFE (Southwark Playhouse)
ANASTASIA (Broadway)
SWEENEY TODD (Off Broadway)
favourite performances by an actress in a musical:
Imelda Staunton (Follies)
Carolee Carmello (Sweeney Todd)
Carolyn Maitland (The Woman In White)
Tracie Bennett (Follies)
favourite performances by an actor in a musical:
Killian Donnelly (Les Miserables)
Scott Hunter (Yank)
Michael Vinsen (Bare in concert)
Jack Wolfe (The Braille Legacy)
favourite plays:

REVLON GIRL (Park Theatre)
THE GOAT (Theatre Royal Haymarket)
GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY (Old Vic)
favourite performances by an actress in a play:
Shirley Henderson (Girl From The North Country)

Stockard Channing (Apologia)
favourite performances by an actor in a play:
Conleith Hill (Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?)

A good mix of shows you posted. The Braille Legacy and Woman In White are on the mark The Life at Southwark also turned out to be a surprising success. I'm fortunate to live in New York City and got to stay in London twice this past year. Thanks for your post.
