I read with interest the review of the latest Ogunquit production ofFrom Here To Eternity, the new Musical by Tim Rice and Stuart Brayson on Broadway world which wasn’t very favourable. However I have since read seven other reviews which have all been excellent. A few out and out raves! See below.
I wonder if this Broadwayworld reviewers problem was he wanted to see South Pacific and From Here To Eternity is certainly not that!! Or did he simply want to make a name for himself by slagging off a show and score that won over many admirers in London. From Here To Eternity appeals to a younger audience who have no idea of the famous movie of the same title. The music has a contemporary feel although it pays homage to the period. It’s a brilliant story, one of the greatest novels of the 20th century and features some out and out classic songs Fight the Fight, Thirty Year Man, Run Along Joe, At Ease, Aint Where I wanna Be Blues, I Love The Army, G Company Blues and Boys of 41. It’s a proper grown up show unlike the slew of jukebox flimsy fodder currently treading the boards.
From Here To Eternity is on at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine until Oct 29th
