- Rachel was out on 11/3, her replacement was great. She really nailed it. I missed her clearlyunmistakable tone in parts (that you all know) but the acting was nailed and "Good For You" smoked.

- The rest of thecastis pushing their charactersharder now w/o fear of overdoing it. Awesome.
- Ben rocked of course on 11/3..... PLEASE DO NOTthink for a second that his performance lacked, it DID NOT, it was 1000%. Really, there was nothing different in that. You wouldn't notice unless you've seen the show multiple times.

BUT these last weeks appear to have an emotional and physical impact on him, as opposed to when I saw the show in June. But we all know what he puts into the show and he's a superman.... but he's human.

I just felt / saw a very subtle aura that the inexplicable hard work is difficult.PLUS, These last few weeks increase the notion that he's going to miss the DEH family and also starting a WONDERFUL, but unknown new chapter in his life. We're all excited and he is too, but I could tell a difference as these are the last few weeks.

We've all had this in our lives. Nothing is constant except change.

Ben, if you're reading this. God bless you and your sheer insanity towards perseverance. You've not raised the bar for what hard work looks like, you've placed it in another dimension.

We're excited for your record with Atlantic!!! (Don't beat your Fansens up if we beg for a DEH song for your encore when you're on tour. See Ya Then!)

Thanks for this. Sitting in a restaurant in OKC on verge of tears. I fly to NYC tomorrow (arrive before 1:00 p.m.) and have ticket to see DEH tomorrow night (my first of 6 shows over 5 Days). So glad to hear that RBJ’s replacement is solid. I saw her in Pippin - amazing! Disappointed her to miss her, but excited to see the show and test of OBC.  Can’t wait.

I also went last Friday and I had seen Ben and the rest of the OBC in April. I think one thing that was apparent was that the role of Evan has brought some wear and tear into Ben's voice. Totally understandable. I also thought that while Garrett Long was an excellent Heidi she didn't have the tenderness and warmth that RBJ brings to the role. But this wasn't necessarily bad. Long's sterner, less squishy Heidi made the conflict between Evan and his mom more understandable. Long also reads as younger and less "mom"-like than RBJ which makes it more likely that Heidi was maybe very young when she had Evan and like many very young single moms get overwhelmed. But I was still overwhelmed with the force of Ben's performance.

My friend saw the show Sunday. As a point of reference, he had previously seen MLB as Evan. This is what he said:

"I have to say, Platt's performance is one of the most amazing I have ever seen on Broadway-- the stuff of legends. The understudy has a beautiful voice and is an excellent actor (and he's not bad looking, either), but Platt... he gives you the bleeding truth, not just a good performance."

I saw the show Sunday 11/5 and agree that Ben was clearly more emotional, even compared to when I saw him a few weeks ago. He was crying at the end of For Forever, which I don't remember him doing (at least not to that degree) in previous shows. I thought he was going to lose it in the final scene. I am sure the reality of leaving is hitting him hard. I think the honest, raw emotion really added to the entire experience. The energy in the audience was incredible, too. When the lights first went up at the beginning, everyone was clapping and cheering for so long, I didn't think he was going to be able to start! I also agree that Garrett was fantastic as Heidi. I absolutely adore Rachel's performance, and can relate so much to her character and the way she portrays Heidi, so I admit I was a little skeptical that Garrett would have the same impact on me. But I was incredibly impressed with Garrett. I think there were only subtle differences in her performance that wouldn't really be noticeable unless you've seen the show multiple times with Rachel. The entire experience was unforgettable, as always!

I did get to say it Wednesday night. Once I let go of the fact that it wouldn’t be exactly as I had imagined it as I listened to the cast recording a gazillion times and came to realize I wasn’t going to be a sobbing mess the whole time like I thought I would, I enjoyed the show and came to adore it!

I knew RBJ was going to be out. Her stand in (i’m currently at a restaurant and don’t have the time or access to pull up her name.) had a couple of rough vocal moments at beginning of the show but I thought it kind of matched the character. What surprised me the most is the songs (You Will Be Found, Words Fail) that usually have me sobbing on the cast recording did not have a similar effect for me in the theater. In fact, while Words Fail did make me misty, it was the scene after that and then her So Big, So Small that had me sobbing uncontrollably. She is the only one that came out to the stage door so I was able to tell her that.

It's the same for me! When I listen to the recording, god Words Fail and For Forever just get me, I feel so much for Evan.... But during the show it's, like, a whole other experience lol! You Will be Found really gets me with its staging and God, same regarding So Big, So Small and the scene leading up to it... I break down every time at Evan's almost-confession...

I love how it can be such a different experience when you actually see the show versus the recording, and how each stands up on their own, even telling the same story!

I am curious of who you saw as Heidi, please update us with who it was, Garrett or the new actress who's name escapes me right now.

You Will Be Found is particularly stunning to watch onstage with all of the overhead projections and the different things happening during the number. (Watching Larry Murphy breakdown when he sees all of the projections of Connor.)

I went last night, and Garrett was on for Heidi and Nicole was on for Cynthia. This was my fourth time seeing Garrett as Heidi, and she's only gotten better. She still doing a very replica type performance, but she's bringing out more emotion in the second act now. I really enjoy her, and I've now seen every combination of Evan/Heidi (not including the new understudies). Ben/Garrett was the last one I needed, so I'm glad I got a chance to see them together before Ben left.

Nicole was VERY different as Cynthia. She was much more constantly straight faced than JLT. While JLT seems a lot more open and forced happiness, Nicole seemed more constantly grieving and withdrawn. She rarely smiled, not nearly as much as JLT does where Evan/Connor Project, etc is concerned. Her singing is very nice, and I'd be interested to see her take on Heidi.
