Once Daveed and Renee leave, will there be a discount code?

or, cannot wait to buy my discounted tickets at TKTS. Okay, maybe not 50% off, probably more like 30%.

LOL.

For my money, Daveed and Renee really shined in this show. But, I think they will fill all these roles with high quality performers (if not household names). I just wish the hype would calm down to stabilize ticket prices and availability.

Imagine the bandwagon theater goer (like moths to flame) who are wondering why they spent thousands to see replacements. Let the uneducated backlash begin.

Not entirely, no, but General Management sets the tone of the company and can create an environment that either makes the employees happy, or disgruntled. You can figure out the rest.
"

But I'm sure you know, the GM reports to the lead producer. The attitude and the environment comes from the top.

Oh girl please, everyone knows I created that as a joke. You act like you revealed something.

Now go and be a dear and delete your account.

Of course. A bad attitude CAN be passed down from the producer through the GM, or the GM can absorb it and keep their employees happy. Just like in any other place of business with levels of management.

Thanks for that reminder, trpguyy. I had forgotten about all it entails after doing it for nearly two decades. Phew... Sounds exhausting!!!

BTW...

i was going start a new thread but then someone talked me down. So this is what I was going to post...

THOUSANDS DEPART HAMILTON

At the end of the performance last night. 1,319 (give or take a few) departed the Richard Rogers theater for the last time. Most, having never seen a show before, will never see another Broadway show in their lifetime. Or, at least until another show over-bloats with the hype that Hamilton had attained.

LOL in a snarky way.

This thread seems to have as much discord as backstage as Hamilton has right now.

When you're employed, you get these breaks during the day. They're typically about an hourlong and designated for the purpose of eating lunch. They're really great. Do you not get those at your place of employment?

You've been going at this thread pretty hard for over two hours now, just saying. That's a nice lunch break, if that's what you call it, I've never experienced one of those before.

When your new contract is less then your expiring one you normally don't want to stay.

I think this story is a lot less interesting than people seem to want it to be.

Not really. All four Tony winners from Hamilton have either departed or will be departing soon. That's a big deal for a show with so much hype...

Whaaaaaat daaaaaaa fuqqqqq!!! What in the hell is going on down there @ the RRT?!?! I know people leave shows all the time but damn that came out of nowhere! I'm not gonna sit here and speculate as to why this went down the way it did. But damn I'm sorry to see him leave!

I had pretty much the same reaction.

And, now, Renee, too.

And some of them have been attached to the show for 3 years or more and are now probably fielding excellent offers for other things.

Because this show opened very early in the season- a year ago- the contract length for the actors probably feels short to people, especially since the Tonys were just a month ago. But it's been a year on Broadway. Contract end time.

The show has wisely been positioned as the star. Just as Book of Mormon was, even with its excellent original cast.

Ultimately, as with Mormon, or Wicked, or other modern hits, the departure of the original cast will only really matter to the diehard fans.

He has a bright, bright future ahead of him as well as all the other principals who had the good fortune to be part of this very special and groundbreaking work."

Either they all have bright futures or most will undergo RENT syndrome where this will have been the high point of their careers, with maybe a few having big future success (a la Menzel).

But there is something to be said about so many departures happening at the PEAK (post-Tonys) of the show and in such a swift amount of time. You can't deny that.

How is it a big deal? You all act like this is unheard of. It's not uncommon for the stars of a show to depart after their initial contracts end.

Skimbleshanks2 also said: "But there is something to be said about so many departures happening at the PEAK (post-Tonys) of the show and in such a swift amount of time. You can't deny that."

Once again, the annual contract ended in July, so cast members leave in July. It's nothing out of the ordinary. Most of us are used to shows opening in March and April so cast members leave 9 or 10 months after the Tonys. But in the end, they were still with the show for a year. This is no different except that Hamilton began in July.

If the show had started on Broadway in the Spring, it would be a big deal.  But it started an entire year ago on Broadway, after 5 months at the Public, and after many months of rehearsals.  It's no longer a big deal for a cast member to leave.  Perhaps he didn't want to take away from their moment, perhaps he is more reserved (seemed that way when I talked to him in a restaurant), or he doesn't want to be famous or deal with the hordes of people outside every night.  Im sure it's exhausting.  He most likely wants to focus on his rap group or maybe he has gotten a great offer for another role in theater/film/television.

I think it's largely a matter of coincidental timing of the awards and the contract expiration.

We know Soo is attached to Amelie, so she probably wants, like, a break.

Miranda has been running himself ragged and living nothing but the show for over two years. Plus he wrote the damn thing, it's not like he's getting a raw deal.

Odom just released a solo album and seems to be going down that path of promoting it.

Goldberry is leaving for Netflix.

Maybe the producers didn't want to increase salaries in a renewal. Who knows? It's ultimately their call and isn't "shady," especially since they now will be paying many of the OBC a slice of the pie for their work in the development phases of the show. It's also unlikely to me that the cast replacements are being had at a bargain rate- their agents won't let that happen.

I can see Daveed going on to movies, TV or a music career. Despite the Tony win, I'm not sure we'll see him as a consistent Broadway guy.
