I'm thrilled (and shocked) there are so many tickets available to Harry Potter- but does anyone else find it odd? After those reviews last week, I thought I would be seeing it in May of 2019 (but seeing it tomorrow)
After all the 'online fundraising' last year to get Spring Awakening on the Tony awards, I haven't seen Spring Awakening listed on any subscriptions for the 17-18 season- am I missing dates? Did the tour not come together?
An opera gossip website reporting that Stefan Herheim is taking over as director of Frozen. Having seen two of his operas in Europe, this, if true, is ridiculously exciting news.
but Timbers isn't a very good director... i think we are seeing Disney make a smart decision after a bad decision. end of story. its not about being conservative, its about being smart.
I was a 14 year old phantom freak when it the show came out in NYC and got the aspects of love London cast album before it came to NYC- it is a show that, as a score, is quite good- on stage, it is quite bad.
I know there is no real affection for 'The Capeman', but having seen it 3 times on Broadway, I think it an incredible score & story (and the Public Theatre / Central Park version was horrible, so go back to the broadway version and see what can be done)
Laura Benanti has never felt like a 'young' actress on stage- that isn't an insult- I think as she ages she will have her best success- she should embrace being 'middle aged' where i think she will enjoy EGOT success
I don't think its out of the question to ask 'how much' has been raised. I'm assuming it is proceeds after expenses, so it is valid to assume that at this point, it could still be in the red. The 'fun home' people were very upfront about what they raised following the performance & I think that is admirable. Asking 'how much' isn't an obnoxious question.
I'm assuming that there was probably a 'private/fundraising' show that was scheduled for this date (like the ones they did for the Public, DNC, Wesleyan, etc) that they did earlier in the year and it fell apart for some reason so they put the show on sale!
I was 8 years old in 1983 when I saw this show & I still have very vivid memories of being pawed by Cats going up and down the aisles. I think the show made me a dog person.
Also, being 8 and taking things literally, I remember the tagline 'now & forever' and thinking at 8 'is this show really going to run forever, seems impossible'? Ah, to young and innocent again.
Just for sake of discussion, which Shubert could Phantom 'easily' move to? Weren't there issues about the size of theatres back in 1988 that limited the choice to about 3 theatres?
