Bailey was on tonight. I've heard that tomorrow night [er, I guess tonight!] is Sophia's last show. How did Paige compare to the current-tilda's?

Yup, Sophia's cousin (Photo and all, so it's not fake) has confirmed that tonight's her last.

Yes, it was Sophia last show tonight and I was lucky enough to be there. As much as all the Matilda's have something special to offer, Sophia is my favorite Matilda and so I was thrilled to be there for her last show.

Both Bailey and Milly were there at the end to give her flowers at curtain call- Sophia looked surprised to see two of them. (I heard that Milly gave Oona flowers last week) - as the rest of the cast circled around her applauding as well. And when they went off stage you could hear more cheering and clapping.

Sophia got a little emotional at the end - but she held herself together and smiled throughout her last Matilda moments. The only time to me that she looked really emotional was when Matilda and Ms. Honey hugged at the end before their cartwheel exit. It looked like the hug was a little bigger than usual - and it seemed like Jill was saying something to her as she was holding her.

I almost didn't go tonight but I was lucky enough to get a ticket and I am so glad I had the opportunity. What a great memory to have..

Sophia did a great job holding together Sat night and was brilliant as usual. Jill was crying at curtain calls as well so I wonder what her and Sophia said to each other. I thought it was great that Bailey and Milly came out at the end.
I saw Gabriella make her debut this afternoon. She is a little star. Her accent was very good and her acting in incredible. Her singing of Naughty seemed tentative but her Quit was outstanding.

I am getting a little teary again reading your comments about Sophia, Matt. And yes she was awesome as always. It's still amazing that she just turned 10 - Bailey is almost a year and a half older. She has a lot of confidence for someone so young. I wonder what she (and the others) will do next.

Happy to hear that Gabriella had a great start. And as sad as it is to see the others go, it's great that four more girls will have a time to shine as well. I mean no one gets more press, attention, etc than the original cast Matilda's - but it still a great opportunity for the new girls.

You can say what you want about Matilda - loved the show, hated it and everything in between. You have to give it to the Matilda people for taking care of those girls...not allowing any ego to get in the way of the bond they all share...and making sure they are happy and healthy as girls, not just actresses. As a teacher and mom, I really appreciate that. I can think of other situations that are polar opposites and I always feel bad for the kids involved.

I don't cry at the theater almost ever, but did have tears in my eyes last night seeing her so emotional. I teach elementary school and kids are capable of so much, sometimes more than adults because they do not know they should be scared.
I could see her and Oona in Les Mis. I don't think they have announced the kids yet.

I was JUST telling my daughter that this afternoon - I could see either Oona or Sophia at Les Mis... Great minds..LOL And no they have not announced the kids yet - they said they would announce them into the new year.

I wonder if all four Matilda girls are looking for another role right away or they are taking a break. I could understand them going either way...especially for the commuters who don't live in the city. But selfishly I would like to see them again soon.

haha, I think it's funny that you're saying Sophia and Oona would make perfect Young Cosettes, when it's Milly and Bailey who actually have that role on their resume. I think any of them would make excellent Cosettes

Haha, I did know that about Milly but not Bailey. Just in my opinion I see Oona and Sophia in the role more than Milly and Bailey. I hope they all, of they want, get something soon.

It's not a criticism of the other girls at all. I just think they might be too big since they are the two oldest. Sophia is tiny being she is the youngest by almost a year and a half compared to Bailey who is the oldest and Oona has that waif-like super-slim quality.

My comments had nothing to do with ability or talent - I was thinking purely physically...of the way that I would envision the role. I am totally sure they are all quite capable of handling the role..so my apologies if my comments were interpreted in any other way. I am sure that Bailey and Milly were amazing in the role if they did it when they were younger.

Either way, does anyone know when Bailey's leaving? Also, it seems that if any of the girls were going into other shows relatively soon, they would let them leave first so as to go ahead and start rehearsals sooner. So if any of them would end up becoming Cosette, I think it would be either Sophia or Oona (that'd be pretty funny imo if they split the roll together again). Just an observation.

Also, do they hire different actresses to play Young Eponine too, or do they just use whatever standby for Young Cosette? Seemes like it would be almost a waste to bring in another actress or two to play Young Eponine whom I don't think has any lines. If I remember correctly. It seems like it was one of the Young Cosettes who did it when I saw Les Mis touring last year, but I can't remember for sure. And touring and Broadway probably have different standards too I imagine.

I saw Paige this Sunday at the matinee. If she was wooden before, today she was much more relaxed in the role. She seems to be feeding well off of Gabriel Ebert and Jill Paice in their scenes together. "I'm a girl!" "Are you poor?" There are some moments in the play where she lets the silence hold a little too long for my taste.

To me, the new librarian is a significant step down. The original performer was rapt with Matilda's storytelling, but frankly, the way the current actress reads the lines makes me think that her character's attention is wandering. She (the character, not the actress) seems to forget herself and doesn't take the dramatic moments of the escape artist's story with the appropriate amount of significance. This jars strongly with the the rest of the play, because the whole point is that the good people in Matilda's life understand what a treasure she is.

Paige's voice really booms. She is forceful and righteous as Matilda, and her singing is clear and bold. She's definitely good.

I really hate the changes in the script for American audiences, as by and large they make the okay less literate. "Hurling through the air" is now "flying through the air," "escapologist" has become "escape artist," and the acrobat's costume is set "on fire" instead of set "alight." Paige also enunciates all the R's in her words the way that an American would, which is notable when she says "water," for example. (Lavender still says it the British way too.)

I'm glad to hear Paige is improving, looking forward to seeing her in the role. I am also not a fan of the new Mrs. Phelps. She is not a warm with her character and I am not a fan of all of her line deliveries.

I didn't want to do a separate thread, but I really want to say this.

I thought of this a while back, but do you know who would be a great choice for Miss Honey for the film if Lauren Ward (Her husband is directing, so I think she might get it/be offered) doesn't do it? Amy Adams! Not only does she has a beautiful, soprano voice, but she has a soft-spoken, speaking voice that would be perfect for Miss Honey And she has the look with has her naïve, beautiful face and the hair for it.

Regarding if they should get one of the Newtaildas if the current Matildas are too sick to go out, they did. Ava made her debut, last night in the middle of the show

Wow..that's amazing. Talk about pressure. What a trouper... I am sure that is not the "opening" night anyone envisioned.

I am sure she was received well...the audience must have been super supportive.

DisneyBroadway, can you clarify, did you mean the matinee show on Sunday? There was no evening show.

Paige was on at the Sunday matinee (1/5), for the whole show. She was credited in the playbill insert and I was in attendance.
