Hi everyone, My sister and I are having a "discussion" on which Jesus of JCS is better-Glenn Carter in the New Stage Production Soundtrack CD-(2000) or Steve Balsamo from Highlights from JCS CD (1996). Since the people on this board seem so "up" on the latest and greatest, we'd like you to help us out! Thanks!
Eeeep! Not Glenn Carter! He creeps me out a little (even before we found out that he is a leader of a cult) not to mention that I thought he played the "Gethsemane" scene a little too angry for my taste, but maybe that's just me! My favorite Jesus is Ian Gillan from the London Concept Recording
Steve Balsamo, by far, is much better. You do realize that you can get the full version of Steve's JCS right? The highlights excludes some of the real highlights of the CD including Zubin Varla's incredible version of "Damned For All Time" and an extremley powerful rendition of "This Jesus Must Die".
Glenn Carter is very....flamboyant.
There's a light in the darkness of everybody's life.
I thought Glenn was awful in JCS. Whereas most performers belt out the high parts of 'Gethsemane' he did it in a limp falsetto that proved he didn't have the rock chops to pull off the role. Really embarrasing and it wasn't like he was making some bold statement dramatically, he just didn't have anything the part requires. Just a shameful performance and rendition.
i think i joined broadwayworld just to see threads with titles like this...lmao

I believe that Glenn Carter had a superior understudy. If I’m not mistaken, it was the understudy’s Broadway debut. I’m afraid that I did not have the opportunity to attend a performance when he filled in for Glenn Carter. I understand from others who have posted here, that he not only stole the show but they would have turned out an exceptional CD if Max von Essen had been allowed to fill in for him that day too!
