Agreed--and I feel the same way about Victor (unless that's who you meant as Todd :P ) I know both actors, actually, got into some soap press gossip about not wanting to do as many shirtless scenes unless they felt it made some sort of sense, and obviously not waxing so much as to look like an 80s gay porn star (which for some reason most soap hunks seem to be modelled after.) I admit, while ridiculously cut, the fact that Brody wasn't all oiled down and smooth when shirtless made him appeal to me more, too.

I guess it's just fantasy--and that's a huge part of the reason to watch soaps--but for me, personally, it takes me out of it a bit when I start thinking "How much time could that guy really be worrying about his abducted girlfriend if he just had a full body wax and spent four hours in the gym?"

No I meant Roger Howarth, but I also think the same about Trevor St. John.

Well I agree on both counts then. I think they're allowed to maintain chest hair because they're valued as actors :P it seems to be a training ground soap actors have to go through...

Wait, that was IT for today Friday on AMC? No episode, just a bunch of behind the scenes stuff? I'm not watching on Fridays anymore. All My Children/One Life To Live online (cast info, discussion, etc)

I don't know, but if that's true, fine, I'll only watch four days.

Both shows do some kind of recap on Fridays. It only airs Monday through Thursdays.

I'm catching up now, since I can only watch it at work.

Yeah besides slashing the time, to make them financially feasible they just do four days a week--I'm ok with it. Friday's episode seems to be a waste, though I liked seeing the Exec Producers for both shows. The last third is pure product placement (one show featured swimsuits--and they didn't even have the cast model them lol).

The New York Times reviewed the shows today and--SHOCK!--hated them. The guy complained that since he actually had a job all of his life and before that went to school, he had never watched a soap before (...) and that he spent the whole time frustrated because they kept talking about stories and characters he knew nothing about (again ...) His ultimate take was the production values were decent but those who like "that kinda thing" should just buy Revenge season 1. Which seemed to kinda miss the point, but I was actually just surprised someone in the mainstream media did review them.

I'm watching the recap thing now and it's not bad. I love Erika and it's nice to hear from the producers. The swim suit thing was really weird, though. I get it, but it's stupid. At least they saved it for the end so I can just stop watching.

Why wouldn't someone with an interest in soaps do the review?

That's my critique. I think it's more than fair to review the shows--but to say you have never watched (and I think he's right partially about the acting--though I'd say the people who delivered it were better than mediocre) and then complain about how confused you are? A huge part of the appeal of soaps is that they go on, and on, and on... You jump on the ride when you can, and if interested then you keep up. The review is here, btw http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/04/arts/television/all-my-children-and-one-life-to-live-on-hulu-and-itunes.html?_r=0

Well, duh. If you never watched the shows of course you wouldn't know what is going on or who anyone is.

I go agree with the point about the lack of surprise when Victor came back. I mean I guess at this point it doesn't surprise anyone - half the people in that room came back from the dead at one point or another - but at least more than a "good for you" was warranted.

Also, Victor said something about escaping from Allison. Isn't he worried she's going to come after him again?

Maybe she's dead? Maybe they'll get around to that next week.

The OLTL finale was shocking for a few reasons:

Crazy Perkins narrating and then showing him tired to the bed at the very last second. Total shock value. How they will explain things is beyond me. I think the actress is fantastic and I hope she's not dead. She's been a **** stirrer for a while. Keep her.

It seems that this OLTL is a lot more realistic. I doubt we'll have anymore underground villages. Or super crazy story lines. The frozen lake and body switching (twice!) really did it for me. Poor Stacy.

I love Barbara Garrick--have since I saw her in Tales of the City (at the time I hadn't seen her first stint on One Life) and would welcome her back fro a while, but I could do without seeing mustache twirling Mitch back (again) anytime soon.

I wonder how much of the finale they will explain--some of it is probably should just be dropped (like why in the Hell Alison was writing about everyone in Llanview anyway, incluyding characters she never had even met :P ). I suspect this whole tattoo, etc, thing will somehow tie into Dorian's CIA story, however.

Yeah the goal (of both online soaps) has been reportedly to be somewhat more grounded in reality--we'll see though. Thom Racina, One Life's headwriter, is most famous for creating the hugely popular "Ice Princess" story on GH in the early 80s which was about as comic book as soaps got. But so far I like the darker, more realitic vibe. (I don't mind the swearing, but I swear every second word Corbin Bleu's character says is ****.)

Just watched the new episode.

Victor does poppers?

Are migraines only caused by poppers? :P

I would have thought that Victor was well versed on how to murder someone by this point and wouldn't have to look it up. I kinda LOLed at poor Dani (who I am loving this time around) with Jeffrey and Matt going on about hwo they'd watch over her and then practically mid conversation taking off...

Dani's always been the best out of the young folk.

No one's brought up Starr. Is that because of the lawsuit? Or what?

No, these episodes were filmed and scripted pre lawsuit (hence why they've made no qualms about mentioning Port Charles or other elements of GH.) It does seem odd Blair hasn't asked Todd how she is, but...

SPeaking of, GH just released their promo for "THree new faces come to GH" about the OLTL characters in their new roles. They cut John's hair (an improvement,) bleached Todd's hair (! not an improvement) and dyed Starr's darker. I honestly have a feeling this could all backfire...

Today's episode was crazy! Who was that guy with the braids and bad tattoos?

I was more intrigued with Dani, but that didn't go far enough.

I loved the scene with Nora and Bo.

And I guess you really shouldn't drink poppers.

AMC's commercial breaks are as long if not longer than the episode time spans. I'm not sure I can put up with this.

I'm continually impressed by nuMatthew. He's very cute, but more than that, he managed to slide into the soap groove with absolutely no learning curve. He's a natural. I get the kind of vibe I got with a fresh-faced Josh Duhamel so many years ago, that he's going to move quickly into great things.

He is a natural, and your comparisons to Josh as Leo when he came on AMC make sense. I also like that, while this is probably not on purpose, he actually seems to have some of the same facial mannerisms as the earlier Matthew.

OK I try to not read casting spoilers, but since I'm on their website, I got emailed a press release about a certain major AMC villain from the late 70s to the early 90s popping up next week. Crazy! (It's easy to find out who if you google.)

Jane, are you serious about commercial length? I don't watch on Hulu since we get it on FX Canada here, but the commercial breaks are insanely short on my end--there's a total of about 4-5 minutes scattered in three commercial breaks per 30 minutes (for both One Life and AMC.) After watching soaps on network tv where for each hour you get 24 minutes of commercials, this seems like a Godsend to me. I wonder if Hulu is adding more or something?
