I hope they don't cut Grantaire's solo from "Drink with Me." It's such a great little character moment- all the audience has ever seen of this student is that he's a drunken bum, and then out of nowhere he sobers up and points out a few things that no one seems to have thought of before. I really enjoyed the way this moment is portrayed in the current tour: Grantaire sings "Can it be you fear to die," and almost all of the men start to rush him as if they are insulted, only to stop when he continues, realizing he has a point. I don't remember how the original staging went (and wish I did).
Anyhow, I get why they might cut it, but I'd much rather see "Turning" cut down (and it has been for the most part in productions since the 10th anniversary concert), and certainly "Little People" cut down. I'm not sure if there's really anything that could be removed from "Waltz of Treachery"- it's already pretty short as is.
The soundtrack to Evita was first released as a highlights album and a 2 disc set was released some weeks later.
Nope...it was actually the other way around: The 2 - CD set of the movie soundtrack of EVITA was issued Nov 12, 1996. The single CD of highlights was not issued until July 29, 1997.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
I don't think the fact that it says "Highlights" means there will definitely be a full version later. Not that to say there won't be, but even without a full one, calling this one "Highlights" is still correct.

Thanks so much for the tip, jacob. Downloading mine as well. Debating whether to listen to any of it before/after I see the movie, waiting to see it on the 26th.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I'm not the mp3 type. Nope. Maybe I have hyper sensitive satellite ears and can detect details that most normal humans can't, like a dog. But I can often hear this awful bubbling noise within a track on most mp3s. So I vowed NEVER to purchase them and go for a factory-pressed CD instead.
But I'm also a very, very impatient mofo. One of my many qualities and charms to go along with my nit-pickiness, detail-obsession, wordiness, self-importantness, repetitiveness, monotony, and passion to spare. Omg, I'm such an amazing person!!!
At any rate, this lack of patience has made my unbending principals bend...a bit, and I am presently downloading cheapo mp3 Les Miserables soundtrack album as I pound on these keys, because I wish not to wait for snail mail.
"The time is here! Will I give this new album much hatred or cheer? Let us take to the phones with no doubt in our hearts, with a jubilant John Cameron orchestration it will come together once and for all, or this movie will fall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
That's me being midget-jolras with a passion for his orch cause.
Follow me, follow me!

Recreation of original John Cameron orchestration to "On My Own" by yours truly. Click player below to hear.
I downloaded it. I just got through I Dreamed A Dream. Anne Hathaway should be so proud of herself. She has recorded one if not the best renditions of that song ever. She completely gutted me. I cannot imagine what effect it will have on me once I see it visually. Samantha Barks' "On My Own" is absolutely magnificent! "One Day More" sounds more powerful than it does on that clip released earlier this week. I cannot wait to see this film!
One thing I did notice was that "At The End of the Day" was edited and is shorter than the one that is in the film which leads me to think if any of the other songs were.
Jeez...Russell Crowe really sounds horrible. Almost as bad as Pierce Brosnan in MAMMA MIA!
The orchestrations sound absolutely stunning. So far, I like it but don't love it.
Anne Hathaway's "I Dreamed A Dream" is just fantastic. Honestly in a different league than every other track I've heard so far. Gut-wrenching, even on CD. I'm so glad she's getting such great notices for this and is proving all of the nay-sayers wrong.
And will there actually be a deluxe album or is that just speculation?
