Today is Thursday, November 15, marking the official opening night of Manhattan Theatre Club's Murder Ballad, a new rock musical that launches the company's new Studio at Stage II Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series, following previews from October 31 for a run to December 2. John Ellison Conlee, Rebecca Naomi Jones, ?Karen Olivo and Will Swenson star in the show by Julia Jordan and Juliana Nash.
The world-premiere production is directed by Trip Cullman. It plays an extended five-week limited engagement at New York City Center Stage II, one of MTC's two Off-Broadway homes.
Here's how MTC bills the musical: "A love triangle gone wrong, Murder Ballad centers on Sara, an Upper West Sider who seems to have it all, but whose downtown past lingers enticingly and dangerously in front of her. This sexy, explosive new musical explores the complications of love, the compromises we make, and the small betrayals that can ultimately undo us."
Mentioned this in the "Giant" review thread (as I am hoping either "Giant" or this get extended - or both!), but are there any chances of this extending? Even just through Christmas?
