Just saw this for the first time. Either I"m hormonal (doubt it) or that is one great film promo. I'm practically choked up from it. Can't wait to see this.
p.s. haha, just realized you can watch it here on the site. I'm sure it's much more effective on a large screen tho.
Thanks for starting this thread Jane! Having been out of touch with the real world the last five months, I didn't even have any clue this was close to release. Pretty stoked!
When I saw that nano second of Isabelle Allen (young Cossette), it really got to me. I thought what perfect casting . I can't imagine another face that could symbolize this story any better. And that's just her face, lol! Can't wait to see the film..
I like the end when young Cosette turns her face towards the camera and then the face of the famous Cosette drawing (logo) fades in, superimposed over hers. Clever little touch.
There's a First Look or something that talks to the actors about what it was like to sing it all live and how they were able to actually play the emotion of a scene instead of the emotion they recorded months earlier. It won me over.
This movie is going to be amazing (I said that about NINE too so don't trust me too much). There just seems to be a kind of energy that feels so right for the project and everyone looks extremely committed *and* right for their parts (and sorry, I don't care if Amanda Seyfried is not Barbara Cook, she'll sound great in a movie musical context and looks like it's acting the hell out of what is usually an insanely boring role). I'm so glad that they're not pretending they're not a musical. Also, when was the last time we saw an epic musical like this one at the movies? It's a genuine question because I'm having a hard time thinking of a musical project as ambitious as this one that portrays people singing. I guess SWEENEY TODD is the closest I can think of, but Burton seemed to tone down the epic factor that you get with SWEENEY on stage. This version of LES MIZ reminds me more of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, WEST SIDE STORY, OLIVER and THE KING & I. I cannot wait!
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I was totally moved the first time I saw the clip of this movie and Anne Hathaway. This cast is amazing and I already have a group set up to see it on Christmas Day (that is after all what we Jews do on Christmas- even though the group is made up of Christian friends!) I loved Les Miz on stage and never thought it would be a movie. I CANNOT wait and Jane- I wish I lived in NY so we could go see it together!
Getting stuck watching the toxic ONE DAY with my sister right now as we speak, I am so glad Anne is getting another start at returning to her 'Rachel Getting Married' form with roles worthy of her talents rather than swinging and missing with movies that occurred around the same time as the Academy Awards co-hosting fiasco.
I also had thoughts that she'd make a great Sally Bowles too so yay to that news as well- even if it is 'for one night only'.
I just watched the extended look behind the scenes on you tube. Full screen and the sound all the way up-OMG. This is one gorgeous film. I can tell right now that the art direction and photography will be nominated!
