Anyone see Danny Boyle's Frankenstein at the movies? Worth it?

It is so worth it to see both versions. So if you're thinking about, just do it if there are still screenings in your area. They're both so similar and yet totally different. I preferred Benedict as he Creature and Johnny as Frankenstein. Didn't care too much for Benedict's Frankenstein. Both are phenomenal as the Creature.

Zoot, since you've seen both, what are the differences between the two portrayals of the creature?

I thought that Johnny's Creature was a little more graceful (not to say that he was dancing, just smoother movements) were Benedict's movements were more stiff. You know how in the interviews before the screening Benedict said how he studied stroke victims and people going through physical therapy to reteach their bodies on how to move? I could see that in Benedict's Creature much more compared to Johnny. And where Johnny said that bits of his 2 year old were in the Creature, I noticed more childlike moments in Johnny's version.

I was also much more emotionally invested in both Benedict's Creature and Johnny's Frankenstein. Their stories were more devastating. I cared for both of them more, whereas when Benedict was Frankenstein I didn't feel sorry for him. I saw Benedict's Creature as much more angry and vengeful and I also thought that Benedict's Frankenstein was more cold where I saw Johnny's Frankenstein to be more of a socially awkward.

That's all I can think of at the moment. After both showings I thought about how much I would kill to have seen both versions live.

Man, I wish I could have seen Benedict as the creature. Not instead of, but just in addition to.

It makes sense that Jonny incorporated what his kid does. I also noticed a lot of what Jonny did that resembled individuals with Tourette's and a bad stutter, but that may have just been how I perceived it.

For me, the weakest link was Naomie as Elizabeth. Not that the others were outstanding, but that her role was so important.

Saw it with Cumberpatch as the Creature and he was incredible. I don't think I took a breath for the first ten minutes. So glad to see others agree about the supporting cast...they just weren't in the same universe as the leads. Not even close. Would love to see the other version, but this will linger in my mind for years to come.

Just saw this in LA last sunday with Cumberbatch as the creature. Absolutely stunning! His physical work in the first 10 minutes is a master class, and should be screened for students in all acting schools. A week later I still can't stop thinking about it, and I am going again on the 17th to see Miller as the creature. This production is not to be missed. I went with a friend who is obsessed with Cumberbatch and loves his work, now I see why! I loved Miller as Frankenstein as well. Unlike many others, I actually enjoyed Naomie Harris, but I do agree that the actor who played the father was VERY weak. Let us know what you think when you see the show.

Saw it with Miller as the Creature and his opening 10 minutes were pretty spectacular as well. Like man coming out of the primordial ooze, first as a fishlike creature and then stammering and stuttering to his feet. The production design and theatrics were breathtaking. Not a fan of most of the supporting players, and the guy from Harry Potter was dreadful. How the hell did he get cast?

DO. NOT. MISS IT.
