Danny is hardly in the same position as Missy B or the Pone, for that matter). Not everyone thought Laura should have won (obviously, cause she didn't). The ladies were in a horrible show and they looked good (partly) because the were surrounded by dreck. Danny had much richer material and did it with all his might. His show could have closed 4 years ago and it would still be fresh in my mind.

I am curious to see the outcome of the nominations. I do not think that Mr. Martin is going to be in the running. The performance was rather forgettable, tho the butt was not. If there were an award for best bum in pants, he'd win. But his acting is lack luster and over gesticulated.

Esparza could make the list, but let us not forget no one has seen this performance and the show was a failure out of town. Blame the leading lady, or whomever you like. I, however, would like to see him shine.

Based on the rehearsal footage of Nice Work, I would assume that is a no on Broderick.

My pick would be:

Steve Kazee
Esparza
Jeremy Jordan
Danny Burstein
Norm Lewis

<< Gavin Creel and Kate Baldwin making vocal love... I adore these two.

I was just adding to your point it's not like last year because no performances are as close in quality as between Nikki and Luara. Also, Laura has a Tony which Danny doesn't which will only help him.

'I don't think Raul has earned the respect of his peers.'

That's a tricky thing to gauge, but for the record:

Burstein has 2 Tony nominations and 1 Drama Desk nomination.

Esparza has 4 Tony nominations and has WON 3 Drama Desk Awards.

Yes, Esparza lost the Best Actor Tony for 'Company' (even tho' he won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics that season), but that doesn't mean he hasn't 'earned the respect of his peers.'

There are many wonderful actors who have yet to be nominated for a Tony, let alone win one, who I imagine have the respect of their peers. As for awards, you win some, you lose some.

And for the record, I have said before that I think Phyllis' role should be for Featured Actress. She has no solos in Act I either, and I consider Ben and Sally to be the primary couple in 'Follies.' The plot focuses on: Will they or won't they get back together? Phyllis and Buddy are collateral damage.

I love Danny but, after 4 nominations, doesn't anyone think that maybe it's Raul's turn?
