One of the rarest of cast albums..even when it was first issued it was not easy to find. In all my years of collecting I have never come across a copy - even used. Nor does it show up on auction lists. If a copy does surface be prepared to spend big bucks.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
We have been dickering about putting it out on CD for years. Tom and Harvey don't want the cast album out ever. They would like the soundtrack to the version done for TV and I have a copy of it. We may finally start working on it early next year, but I'm not too fond of the sound at the moment and unless we can improve it to the point where I AM happy, I probably won't do it.
I thought that you'd posted on ATC a few years ago, bk, that the studio recording had sound problems that were in the original tapes and that's why it couldn't be issued. And that was why you were possibly going to issue a soundtrack of the TV production.
Have you tried transferring it to CD? If you do, I think that you may hear a watery quality in the early tracks, at least if you listen with headphones. That's the case on the transfer I have. If I listen to my LP on a turntable, I don't hear any problem, but when I listen to the transfer with headphones, it's very bothersome.
I had no idea there was a cast album--While I get why some might like it, I've always enjoyed the version done for PBS--which I assume was slightly revised? The cover oif the album is kinda scary..
