I own the OBCR and would kind of like to own another recording of the show. I watched the '93 Roundabout Revival at the Lincoln Center Archives a few weeks ago and would like to buy the Revival recording. Does anyone have any other recordings that they recommend over the Bway revival? Which one(s) do you listen to regularly?
I actually heard the revival recording first, and I love it. I actually don't have any other official recordings, so I'd love some recommendations, too.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

The London 1995 revival recording is, in my opinion , the BEST recording out there. No one can match Ruthie Henshalls voice, it makes Barbara Cook sound mediocre .. And Tracie Bennet is fabulous as Ilona... Buy it!
Tracie Bennet is a lot of fun on the London revival, I didn't really enjoy that one because of the accents, which just didn't make a great deal of sense.
Not at all.. He has character.. As do they all in the recording , which is why it's so wonderful. It's not like Daniel Massey can sing on the original recording.
You must get it... If only for Ruthie and Tracies fabulous performances...
Not sure if you guys are aware, but a new production of She Loves Me just began performances at the Chichester Festival Theatre here in the UK, which I'm going to see in a couple of weeks. One of the West End board posters loved it.
Thanks to all! I'll look into the London revival as well. I am previewing the Broadway revival on iTunes and didn't realize that they recorded it after Judy Kuhn left the show. I'd much rather have her than her replacement (though she is lovely). Those of you seeing the Chichester production, enjoy and report back!
I saw the show in Chichester last week and it's fabulous.. If the cast aren't as good as the London revival, it doesn't matter.. It's still well performed and looks beautiful.
I love the OBC and the London rev, and now feel inclined to scope out a copy of the OLC. I've been developing a deeper affection for Rita Moreno as I witness more of her diverse career.
I wish I liked the Broadway revival recording more. Sally Mayes is perfect, but I recall being turned off by synthesizers and a somewhat airless sound. Too bad Kuhn didn't preserve her performance. I bet her belt was amazing.
Rita is great on that album. Her "A Trip To The Library" is just about perfect, and she sings a song instead of "I Resolve" called "Heads I Win" that was only used, as far as I know, in the first London production. I know not why, but it's good and she again delivers it passionately.
The album, though, is only a one-disc abbreviated representation of the score, and although none of the singers are bad their counterparts on the 2-disc OBCR are all a lot better. Updated On: 5/16/11 at 04:11 PM
If your school is doing a production, go with the Broadway revival since that's what is now rented. Of three productions I've seen in New York since 1980, the Roundabout was the worst: now lousy orchestrations, stupid changes like adding "The Twelve Days of Christmas" before "Twelve Days to Chrisymas" as if the audience, like the production team, was too stupid to make the connection without the old song. The Equity Library production and the Opera Ensemble of New York production with Gregg Edelman, Davis Gaines, and full orchestra were far superior to the second-rate Roundabout, the Bermuda Triangle of good musicals. They sure lose them there.
