When seeing Wonderland I knew it wouldn't get a nomination for much at all, but i thought it was deffinitely going to get nominated for best lighting design, kate shindle for featured actress, and possibly best costume design. Any thoughts?

I'm SHOCKED it didn't get a nod for costumes.

Wonderland's costumes WERE nominated...in 2004, when they were worn by the cast of Wicked.

It's the same designer for the record, and while the ensemble costumes seem similar, the principles seem clever to me. Queen of hearts costume is one of my all time favorites!

The lighting is interesting but Annoying - remember the times when the lights just shine in the audiences faces? ... Some of the reviews were negative of it!

I just love Kate Shindle so much and I hate writing this show off. But you can't put crap behind pretty costumes and cool lighting and call it a day. Eh. I was really excited about it.

It's not something I usually notice so clearly, but I thought Wonderland had the best sound of all the musicals I saw this year (which is all but Baby It's You). It was just so clear, and I was in the very last row of the theater. (Although, for all I know, that's where the best sound is anyhow.)

I thought the costumes and set were worthy of nomination, too. But the material was pretty bad - had me laughing hysterically through all of Act One for all the wrong reasons. :)

I'm not at all surprised that it was completely overlooked. I do agree that there should have been some design nominations, but I think the voters clearly had some kind of agenda this year with Dan being overlooked and a successful jukebox musical with decent reviews not getting a best musical nomination. It feels like they're trying to send a message in regard to some shows, but it could just be in my head.

I thought it would get a lighting nod for sure.

Snubbed?

Wonderland is lucky it wasn't hancuffed and dragged off to jail for impersonating a Broadway musical...

Like I have said before, there is more to successful costume design than just being eyecatching or looking cool/clever. A lot more.

Wrong Billy Boy

It will be a cold day in hell before a Wildhorn show ever gets any recognition.

I think the sound design on this show was fantastic. From the dreamy echo on the disembodied voices in the elevator/drink me sequences to the pronouncement of every wacky synth-effect in "Welcome to Wonderland" to the clarity of the vocals to the point of catching every lyric without trouble. The balance between the vocals and orchestra was spot on for every different genre of music in the show and the sound effects were strong. I know it's easy to overlook good sound design (like good orchestrations) in a hit or miss score, but this is something Wonderland actually got right.

trentsketch, once again I must say that I agree with you a hundred percent. It's not often that I actively notice how good the sound is for a show, but I did when I saw Wonderland. (The last time I remember having a similar reaction to the sound quality was when I saw the Chorus Line revival.)
