I used to live in NYC, but now that I'm back to visit it seems that all my favorite places to go to browse through Broadway and cabaret recordings seem to be gone. I know that I can buy stuff cheapest online, but I'm wondering if there's anywhere in Manhattan left to just spend some time browsing recordings. Tower at Lincoln Center used to have a great selection. Is there any place left?

(BTW, saw Good People last night and thought it was a very, very good play and performance...Frances McDormand was great; also thought Elise Rene Goldsberry was fantastic and a pleasure to watch. Seeing High and Book of Mormon today!)

For movie scores and film soundtracks the Barnes and Noble on 5th Ave is fairly well stocked. They also carry a decent selection of (current, in print) cast albums.

For used CD's (including many out-of-print titles) Academy Book and Record on 18th St. is always an essential stop for me,

and if time permits take the train to Princeton and visit the Princeton record Exchange. Many Cd's there are $1.99!

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
