**Stars** from Les Miserablesre: Best Musical Theatre Song of All-Time (Pick ONLY One)

No contest for me! I love that song especially when sung with a rich, warm baritone voice (cue Michael McCarthy!) that raises the roof.

Javert is also my favourite character (surprise, surprise!).

>"Send in the Clowns" from "A Little Night Music."

ha.haha.hahahaha. no no let me guess- is your favourite show phantom? do ya just love les miz? can you not get enough of ubiquitus songs that everybody knows? i know i'm being cruel, but out of ALL the songs in ALL the shows, WHY are you choosing this one? people here with their on my owns... oy vey. well my personal choice would be either "nobody needs to know" from l5y or "self portrait" from class act. or even possibly "why" from ttB. anyway i don't know how there can be a "best," it actually seems kind of arbitrary to me. "if i loved you" was a great choice, whoever said that. it really is brilliantly constructed. Updated On: 6/22/04 at 05:36 AM

Well it all comes down to personal preference! And yes, my personal preference is 'Stars'. Not because its known by lots of people who love musical theatre, but because I settle down in my seat and enjoy this moment the most during the show.

"Shall We Dance" from King & I (I don't know why, I just love the song - it makes me happy).

Although, I also LOVE "Endgame" from Chess. Who can beat these lyrics?:
Does the player exist
In any human endeavour
Who's been known to resist
Sirens of fame and possessions ?
They will destroy you, not rivals, not age, not success

Oops! That's two...Sorry!

"One Day More" from Les Mis. I know, everybody's voting for it, but I loooove it. It gives me chills. Not that there aren't a lot of songs that give me chills (especially from Les Mis), but that one gives me the most, and has the added benefit of being one of those songs that has a gazillion different melodies in it. (I'm a sucker for those!)

I also really like "In His Eyes," "His Work and Nothing More," and "Facade" from Jekyll and Hyde, but I can't vote any of those for best just because the lyrics are SO contrived. Agh. And of course "Memory" from Cats, but it's only the best if it's done well. "Keep it Gay" from The Producers is up there too... oh man, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard during a show before... but yeah, ODM wins.

WAY back in the day, one of my elementary school friends said that you could tell if a new girl in class would make a good friend by asking her "Which Little Woman are you most like?" The idea was that everyone who said Jo had the same kind of values and would make great friends. Same with Meg, etc.

Then later, in college, someone suggested that you could test possible mates by asking, "If you could only take one CD with you to a desert island, which one would it be?" The idea was that if you liked someone's favorite music, you had a better than average chance of staying together.

My choice WAY back then and my choice now is Les Miserables, my favorite song being "One Day More." That said, I'm wondering, in the light of so many "One Day More" votes on this board, why am I still single? Ha!

I'm Telling You from Dreamgirls.
I have a list of 100 songs that i adore.
At the moment "Fantasies Come True" is at the top of my list.
Actually the entire cd of Avenue Q makes the list sans the underwear song.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this song.

"Unusual Way" from Nine. I am in love with that song.

ONLY ONE?????????? Come on! You can't do this to me!
ANYTHING by Stephen Sondheim is waaaaaaaaaay up there. I mean theres "A little Priest" and "Being Alive" and "Simple" and "Weekend in the Country" and "Moments in the Woods" and I could go on, but I might start to bore you. But I have to say that I looooooooooooooove "Someone in a Tree" so I'll go with that.

Someone in a Tree. Yep. That's my answer. Wow, that was hard.

Ask me in five minutes and it will be a different answer.

I would have to say all the music from A Chorus Line. That show, as I'm sure it is for many other actors, is very personal for me. Who can go on an audition and not think "God I hope I get it" and I dont think there is anyone out there who has felt "Nothing" at one time or the other. "What I Did For Love" is just the perfect theater song.

I have a hard time just picking one too! The "best" for me were songs that really stirred up some kind of emotion in me when I saw the shows and stayed with me long after I'd seen it.

Based upon that, I'd have to go with "Molasses to Rum" - which literally had the hair on my arm standing on end every time I saw "1776".

BWayBoy, and anyone else who likes "What I did for love" Not to sound critical, It is a good song, but does anyone else but me seem to be bothered by the fact that it has really nothing to do with the show? or am I just babbling. If am, please shut me up.
