Hey there! I'm going to be auditioning for a youth theatre production of Newsies. I need an audition song for Katherine. I'm looking for a 1:00 to 1:30 cut. My range is from an f#3-b5, and I'd like the song to feature my belt. Here are my song ideas so far...

-Live Out Loud, A Little Princess (The cut would be from "I want to run down an open shoreline" to "I want to live out loud"

-Times are Hard for Dreamers, Amelie (The cut would be from "Off the train from Paris" to "This is how my world gets made

-Better, Little Women (The cut would be from the beginning until the dialogue)

Any help you can give would be appreciated, thank you!

Also, if you have any 30 second monologue ideas, that would be appreciated!

I found this short monologue that shows a good dramatic character if you wish to show Katherine's dramatic side. https://www.backstage.com/monologues/floyd-dell/enigma/1049/

Regarding the songs, they are all good choices for Katherine. I would recommend singing the cut from "Live Out Loud" for three reasons. One, the beginning of the cut you chose has that fast paced rhythm which resembles the beginning of "Watch What Happens", so that shows off your ability. Two, the song provides a lot of room for good diction to be shown which is always good to show in an audition.  Three, in both "Live Out Loud" and "Watch What Happens" the character singing wants to do something; this gives opportunity to show some character development/acting. Best of luck with your audition.

Pulled form the Adam's family musical would be good. It shows you can belt, keep up with the pace of Watch What Happens and the song also includes her being conflicted between differant feelings.
