re: Danny Calvert and friend assaulted on 9th Avenue  Sep 29 2009, 05:57:36 PM
I never said the victims shouldn't have reported it to the authorities. Jesus, that's exactly what I'm talking about.

People get beat up every day. Some report it to the police, some do not. This got a trivial amount of media attention because of the knee-jerk reaction to violence happening to gay victims and the lax of a few particular police men. Not the first time something like this happened.

Yes, I have a bad attitude because people just need to act so put upon all th

"I don't think the LGTB community is single-mindedly fighting solely for Marriage Equality or protection under hate crime laws, as you're implying. I think that people have a vested interest in a myriad of issues, including the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

See, that's exactly what I'm talking about. You do seem preoccupied with only the superficial issues related to gay rights laodiceans. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell?" Seriously? That's what you bring up to prove your "myriad of issues?"

Gay marriage was legalized in California for some time. When it was (wrongly) put on the ballot, the majority of Californians voted against it; obviously, most people still weren't accepting of gay marriage, despite the fact that it was legal. It's inconsequential to be strident in fighting for certain rights when all seem to be preoccupied with is getting what WE want and not caring about anyone else. Getting our rights is half the battle, getting justice is half the battle, no one seems concer

The police finally reported it right? After what, 3 days? And because, why, they felt they made a mistake? No, because everyone started complaining and they didn't want the bad press. I don;t see that as being a "positive" outcome to this, because it may in fact make homophobic cops resent us more.

No one is thinking of the big picture; this isn't the event that's going to change gay rights in the world, so stop acting like it is.

re: Anyone else having this problem?  Sep 29 2009, 01:04:48 PM
Me too, but the search still works.

22% is a large number, but keep in mind that's still not the majority and is probably far lower than it might have been 20 years ago.

Look. Hate crimes, however big or small, are wrong. But puffing out your chest and crying discrimination at even the smallest transgressions do very little good. The figure that 22% of cops don't formally report these kind of things is disturbing, but have the hope that it will continue to go down in the coming decades. The world doesn't become a United C

^That surprises me very little. No offense to anyone who puts their life on the line for the public, but in my experience the most people I've had confrontations with were soldiers, cops and fireman. And country musicians, but that's a whole other area completely.
re: Jackman and Craig break the fourth wall...to tell an audience member to  Sep 28 2009, 11:38:17 AM
Why didn't she f*cking turn off her cell phone?
re: Because I know you guys love them, a what should I see thread.  Sep 27 2009, 08:57:30 PM
I agree with Dramamama. Not much help, but, it's what I would see.
re: Is there a Billy Elliot actor schedule?  Sep 27 2009, 03:32:28 PM
They have a schedule, they just don't release it to the public.
re: What Did You Get at the BCEFA Broadway Flea Market?  Sep 27 2009, 03:31:48 PM
Is there anything there that you can't just find on eBay?

1. Yes. Sorta.

2. Don't know, because I'm not even bothering.

re: Hamlet 9/25  Sep 26 2009, 10:24:23 PM
I didn't go to the matinee.

But, I waited for him to come out, and there were just too many people. My friend went the week before, and she said he signed like only 11 autographs.

re: Angela Lansbury - Mrs. Santa Claus  Sep 26 2009, 06:10:56 PM
My elementary school music teacher showed this to our class. We were all excited to see Mrs. Potts in "person."
Hamlet 9/25  Sep 26 2009, 05:36:33 PM
I finally saw Hamlet, thanks to my student ID, and I have to bow down to the general consensus here.

I was ambivalent about the production; the pacing was slow and a lot of the actors didn’t seem to put a lot of emotion into it. Jude Law was pretty outstanding, but all in all I felt like I was watching Jude Law in an insane asylum, not Hamlet. Which isn’t terrible, to be honest, but a bit of a downer.
The element in the theatre wasn’t what I expected. Well, it was, but not in a goo

re: Ethnic people in non-ethnic roles  Sep 24 2009, 07:11:32 PM
I'm all for color blind casting as long as it isn't gimmicky. Like the one Black stepsister in the "Into the Woods" revival; you can rationalize the choice all you want, but it just struck me as "We need to make one peripheral character a minority" and that's a tiny bit offensive. Yes, the Steward was played by a Black actor as well, but at least that's more understandable then having a White mother with one white daughter and one Black one.

SNL already did this...

Do these travesties never end?
Re: Unpopular Opinions  Sep 23 2009, 01:40:50 AM
I don't happen to like people whose "unpopular opinion" verges on "ignorant/misinformed/you're-making-yourself-look-like-an-idiot-because-of-your-just-plain-stupid opinion."

re: GLEE-Teaser: Single Ladies  Sep 22 2009, 11:30:54 PM
Glee is just a fun show. It's not ground-breaking, it's not original, it's just a nice little escape for one hour a week. Don't expect much from it, lie back and enjoy. This kid especially is adorable, what's wrong with seeing him spank himself? Nothing, in my book.
