Netflix's THE PROM trailer premieres 10/22  Dec 4 2020, 02:06:14 PM

I did not see The Prom on stage but Im sure that zazz number plays amazingly on stage. This looked like Ryan Murphy attended the Rob Marshall school of directing a musical sequence. ooof.

Brian Dennhey in Death of Salesman - FREE!  Oct 15 2020, 03:56:12 PM

Robert Fall's production of Death of a Salesman will be streaming for free the 21 - 25. Brian Dennhey is beyond brilliant in it.

Michael Reidel - New York Post  Sep 3 2020, 09:48:04 AM

I was never a reader of Michael Reidel, but he did make for an entertaining host on Theater Talk. Some episodes are just cringe worthy. Also, I heard that the cast of Hamilton would not appear on the show, because of his bias towards the show. Eventually, some of the replacements came on, when he left the show.

The Boys in the Band to premiere on Netflix, Wed. 9/30  Sep 3 2020, 09:43:32 AM

This was the last play I saw in the theater. Not the broadway production, but an immersive production in Chicago, where you actually sat in Michael's apartment.

Brian Dennehy Has Passed Away  Apr 16 2020, 01:53:16 PM

I was lucky enough to see his phenomonal  Willy Loman in the late 90's revival of Death of Salesman. Such an incredible actor.  It was recorded and shown on Showtime, hears hoping they release it on streaming.

Chris Evans in Talks to Play Orin in LITTLE SHOP Remake  Feb 24 2020, 03:57:06 PM
Billy Porter was the voice of Audrey II in the Florida production of Little shop that was the pre-broadway run of the 03 revival. There clips of him on YouTube.
The Boys In The Band - opening soon in Chicago  Jan 27 2020, 11:02:31 AM

I'm seeing it later next month, and it's an interactive production which should be interesting

Bug at Steppenwolf  Jan 27 2020, 09:48:23 AM

If you are in Chicago or plan to visit next month you must check out David Cromer's production of Tracy Letts' Bug at Steppenwolf Theater. I saw it saturday night and it was unbelievable. It's amazing to think he wrote this after the oklahoma city bombing, and it's probably even more relevant now as conspiracy theories and fact are now almost completely blurred. Carrie Coon is giving what may be her best performance to date as Agnes (her monolouge in the se

I gotta say I'm really liking this song.

It's at 40 minute mark.

The show is 90min

COLOR PURPLE movie musical currently in development  Nov 29 2018, 10:50:41 AM

I think this is only being done because of the rise of Cynthia Erivo (who I was lucky enough to see in the london production). Speilberg has said on many occasions if he was offered The Color Purple today he would pass it on to a female african american filmmaker. So, Im thinking Dee Rees for this could be kind of amazing, although Mudbound had some issues, but the filmmaking was not one of them. And as much as I love the Speilberg film, I think John Doyle's production has the come the cl

From Chicago; A surprisingly emotional legally blonde  Sep 30 2018, 01:54:40 PM

I’m sure there are discounts. Not sure if it’s on gold star. However, paramount isn’t pricey at all.

From Chicago; A surprisingly emotional legally blonde  Sep 30 2018, 01:43:35 PM

So yesterday I attended the first show of the season at the great paramount theater in aurora IL. I have been a subscriber there for the past 3 years and every show, even the terrible ones are insanely professional and extremely well produced.

So, when I walked into this production I was excpecting something fun and adorable. Like I’m sure most my first exposure to the show was on MTV. I found it cute and fun and not much else. But, yesterday I walked out feeling alm

PRETTY WOMAN Broadway Previews  Jul 20 2018, 02:01:02 PM

Im super curious how this will be received as well. I didn't find it the huge disaster that others have proclaimed, when I saw it in Chicago. I thought Samantha Barks was very winning and charismatic, you couldn't help but fall in love with her. I do hope she has better chemistry with Andy Karl then she did with Steve Kazee...who appeared to be sleep walking through this thing. But I did love Jerry Mitchell's staging, the Opera scene was the highlight, where the show felt like it

Funniest chase sequence?  Jul 13 2018, 11:58:32 AM

A Funny Think Happened on the Way to the Forum is one of the most skillfull I've ever scene with opening and closing doors and windows. At least it was in the last revival in 96

BREAKING: Ivo van Hove Will Direct Broadway Revival of WEST SIDE STORY  Jul 12 2018, 01:56:33 PM

I for one am looking forward to this. There is also an updated version of West Side Story that's gonna be seen around the country directed by Francesca Zambello

https://dctheatrescene.com/2018/07/10/review-west-side-story-at-glimmerglass-festival/

So between these 2 productions and the upcoming film...it's West Side Story mania

What film/TV about theater has worked?  May 17 2018, 09:46:12 AM

Waiting for Guffman -despite being satire of community theater. It is about the struggle about putting on a play

The most famous is All About Eve, although not really about mounting a production, and more so about theater types and back stage shenanigans.

How often do you cry at musicals?  May 15 2018, 03:45:12 PM

Good thread.

Carousel - Lyric Opera Production in Chicago - Steven Pasqual's end of the soliloquy

The Color Purple - Meneir Chocolate Factory - Cynthia Erivo's I'm Here balling when she say I'm Beautiful. The best part because of the size of the theater and that it's in a round is that you could see everyone else balling their eyes out.

Phantom of the Opera - Majestic Theater - When the Phantom let's Christine go at the end.

Company - Broadw

Kiss Of The Spider Woman 25th Anniversary  May 7 2018, 04:59:22 PM

I remember seeing this show when I was 15 with Vanessa Williams, Howard McMillan, and Brian Stokes Mitchell. It was abosuletly thrilling. I always thought this show would be a great vehicle for  Andrew Rannells, not sure why but I could see him killing some those songs of Molina's. I think you would need a name for Aurora, I agree Katrina Lenk would be beautiful, but if a star is needed I would say someone like Jennifer Lopez or in a real stretch Rihanna.
