FUN HOME and More Included in Terrific New Theatre's Season 33

Terrific New Theatre (TNT) announces its 33rd season, the third under Artistic Director Tam DeBolt.

On the bill for the upcoming season are two musicals, two comedies, a drama based on an actual historical event, and one production yet to be determined. It is a TNT tradition to include a TBD teaser in the season announcement. In addition to the regular season, Terrific New Theatre offers, in December, a production as part of its "Written in the South" Series: a play that is either written by a Southerner, set in the South or about the region. This season will mark the third installment of the series.

The season opens on Thursday, September 13, 2018, with the musical comedy The Book of Merman, a celebrated musical parody directed by Pat Anderson-Flowers and starring Amy Johnson in the title role. In November, Birmingham treasure Sandra Taylor and Julie Steward Fuller star in the poignant Grace & Glorie, directed by Jonathan Fuller. December features TNT's "Written in the South" Series; the play is still in the submission and selection process. The New Year opens with Fun Home by Alison Bechdel, Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron; TNT's production, opening January 24, will be directed by David Strickland. The winner of five Tony Awards, this groundbreaking play is the first Broadway musical to feature a lesbian protagonist. Atlanta playwright Topher Payne's Morningside opens on March 14, 2019, directed by Bethe Ensey. This all-female Southern comedy has been described as "Steel Magnolias meets The Real Housewives." The Royale centers around boxing's Negro Heavyweight Championship match - known as the "Fight of the Century" - inside Jim Crow America in 1910. Tawny Stephens will direct the drama, which opens on May 2, 2019. Four productions in TNT's season are Alabama premieres.

Terrific New Theatre is located at 2821 Second Avenue South in Birmingham's Dr. Pepper complex. Season-ticket packages are available now by calling (205) 328-0868 or emailing TNT also offers the seasonal Flex Pass, which allows the holder to use all six tickets in any combination during the season.
