ASF Presents Final Performance of A CHRISTMAS STORY 12/24

The stage version of the classic Christmas comedy that made "You'll shoot your eye out" one of the most famous phrases in holiday history is coming to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Nov. 27-Dec. 24. Tickets range from $25 to $45 and can be obtained by calling the ASF box office at 800.841.4273 or on line at www.asf.net.

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is located at 1 Festival Drive in Montgomery, Alabama.

The movie version of Jean Shepherd's A Christmas Story was released in 1983 and it has since become one of the most beloved films at holiday time. Philip Grecian has adapted the movie for the stage.

A Christmas Story follows 9-year old Ralphie Parker in his mission to get an official Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Ralphie begs his mother, teacher and even the Santa Claus at Goldblatt's Department store for the gun. In every case the response is the same, "you'll shoot your eye out." The stage version of A Christmas Story has all of the memorable comedic moments of the movie including a treasured leg lamp, a tongue stuck on a freezing pole and an embarrassing pink bunny suit.

ASF's A Christmas Story features Bryant Mason as the Old Man, Sandy York as Mother and Jenn Lyon as Miss Shields and ASF favorite Rodney Clark as the adult Ralphie among other roles.

Several Montgomery area children make up the rest of the cast including Seth Meriwether (Booker T. Washington Magnet School) as young Ralphie. He performed in ASF's acclaimed Over the Tavern in 2008.

Meriwether will be joined by Hayley Covington (Forest Avenue Elementary), Claudia Hubbard (ST. James School), Nathan Looney (Butler County Magnet School), Jackson Massey (Baldwin Magnet School), Mary Kathryn Samelson (homeschool) and Riley Segars (Baldwin Magnet School). Helen Taylor (Montgomery Academy) will understudy the children's female roles.

A Christmas Story will be directed by ASF's producing artistic director Geoffrey Sherman. Sherman has directed ASF's biggest holiday hits including A Christmas Carol: The Musical, Peter Pan and Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Other artists on the creative team include Peter Hicks (Set Design), Beth Novak (Costume Design), Richelle Thompson (Sound Design) and Phil Monat (Lighting Design). The stage manager is Tanya Searle.
