Fells Point Corner Theatre will present SHORTS IN A BUNDLE on its Sokal Stage for three weeks only, running tonight, October 18 through November 3rd, 2013. SHORTS IN A BUNDLE is an evening of short plays selected from submissions to our 10X10 festival from the past 3 years by playwrights across the USA.
Baltimore Shakespeare Factory's Touchstone Players Present THE TEMPEST Tonight

The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory has announced open enrollment for its fall Touchstone Players production of The Tempest. Students entering grades 3 - 8 can experience what it might be like to travel back in time to the 1600s and be a part of the fun and excitement of Shakespeare's acting company-The King's Men. Participants will hone their acting skills, make friends, build confidence, and develop an appreciation and understanding of Shakespeare's work. Plus, it's a 'malmsey-butt' of fun!

Pumpkin Theatre continues our 46th Season Discovering New Friendships Through Familiar Tales in our NEW HOME with The Young Playwrights Festival. Part of our "Kids for Kids" series, this partnership with CENTERSTAGE's Young Playwrights Festival is a program that features award winning plays written by children, for children, and performed and designed by the Pumpkin Professional artistic staff. 'YPF is all about kids making theatre, and how transformative that can be. We're thrilled to partner with Pumpkin Theatre to expand the reach of these remarkable plays by some very talented young people,' says Kwame Kwei-Armah, Artistic Director of CENTERSTAGE. This year's plays feature, The True Story of How The Chicken Crossed the Road by Kendall Archer (written in 6th grade), Brightly and Jade, a story of Friendship and Bravery by Phoebe Taylor (written in 1st grade) and When Pigs Fly by Belle Dallam (written in 6th Grade).

Rep Stage to Present I AM MY OWN WIFE, 10/30-11/17

Rep Stage, the regional theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), continues its 21st season with 'I Am My Own Wife' by Doug Wright. Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize and the 2004 Tony Award, 'I Am My Own Wife' was inspired by interviews conducted over several years by the playwright with Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite who survived both the Nazi and repressive East German Communist regimes. Michael Stebbins stars as Charlotte and more than 40 other characters that represent the men and women in Charlotte's life in Germany from the 1930s through 1990, when the Berlin Wall fell. Rep Stage veteran Tony Tsendeas returns to direct. 'I Am My Own Wife' opens October 30, 2013, with a limited run through November 17 in the Studio Theatre of the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA) on the campus of HCC. TICK, TICK...BOOM is Jonathan Larson's story before he wrote Rent. Social issues, plotlines and melodic phrasing made famous in that rock opera are in formation here. It's simpler than Rent with its own quirky charm. The story is not new, but the performers are refreshing, and the real-life tragedy adds new meaning to the main character's obsession with his looming milestone birthday.

Howard County Arts Council Announces 2014 Matching Grants

Forty-five arts and cultural organizations will receive $527,619 in matching grants from the Howard County Arts Council for Fiscal Year 2014. The awards were announced at the Arts Council's annual meeting and reception at the Howard County Center for the Arts on September 20, 2013. These matching grants will be used by 20 Howard County organizations; 14 Howard County public schools; and 10 key Baltimore City organizations to support general operations and projects taking place in Howard County, artist residencies, and special projects in the arts.
