(04/19/2011) - On April 11, 2011, Virginia's Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre honored esteemed stage and screen actress Bernadette Peters with the company's second Stephen Sondheim Award. The award, established in 2009 in honor of America's most influential contemporary musical theater writer and composer, was presented at a black-tie Gala Benefit at the Embassy of Italy. The 2011 Sondheim Award Gala was chaired by Ted and Mary Jo Shen; Honorary Hosts include Stephen Sondheim, Helen Henderson, His Excellency Gary Doer and Ms. Ginny Devine, The Honorable James Moran, His Excellency Giulio Terzi and Ms. Antonella Cinque, and The Honorable Jim Webb and Mrs. Webb. The Sondheim Award Gala helped to benefit Signature Theatre's numerous artistic, education, and community programs. Last year's recipient was stage, screen, and television icon Angela Lansbury. (01/10/2011) - The Way Off Broadway Children's Theatre first opened in 1996 and since then has become a popular entertainment destination for families looking for a fun weekend activity, it has also become a great spot for birthday parties and school trips. Each show that has appeared on the stage has been an original musical adaptation of a popular children's story or fairytale written specifically for Way Off Broadway. With the first show of the 2011 Season, things will be changing in The Children's Theatre. For the first time, a Disney production will come to life on the Way Off Broadway stage when Disney's 101 Dalmatians Kids opens on January 29th kicking off the new season.

The tour began yesterday with a concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The American Idol season 9 top 10 finalists will be making 49 stops this summer. The winner of season 9 was Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox was the runner-up.

(06/11/2010) - Theatre Hopkins will open its final production of the season, the Maryland premiere of the musical comedy, 'The Glorious Ones' on Friday, June 11, at the Swirnow Theater in the Mattin Center on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. The score and book are by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who received the Tony Award for their musical 'Ragtime.' The production is directed and choreographed by Todd Pearthree.

(05/21/2010) - Silhouette Stages, Inc. announces the regional premiere production of the celebrated musical within a comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone on May 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 8 pm and May 23 and 30 at 3 pm. All performances will take place at Slayton House on 14100 Cross Fox Lane, Columbia, MD 21044. Conni Ross and Debra Mobley direct this modern masterpiece with choreography by Lori Pryor and Timoth David Copney and music direction by Keith Tittermary.
