Silver Spring Stage Presents RABBIT HOLE 4/16-5/9

By:

Silver Spring Stage presents Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by Chris Curtis and produced by Bridget Muehlberger. A life-shattering accident turns a suburban family's world upside down and leaves a couple trying to chart their pathway from darkness into light in a heartfelt story of grief and hope. Rabbit Hole will perform weekends April 16 to May 9.

Silver Spring Stage is located in the Woodmoor Shopping Center, lower level (next to the CVS) at Colesville Road and University Boulevard. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $18 for seniors/students. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday matinees on April 25 and May 9 at 2:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased at www.ssstage.org. Information is also available by calling (301) 593-6036.

"I've been talking to people, and they say that it's a play about loss. And yes, it is about loss, but ultimately it's about hope. Hope of getting through, that there is something down the line," said David Lindsay-Abaire about his 2007 Pulitzer Prize winning play Rabbit Hole. Lindsay-Abaire startled audiences when Rabbit Hole premiered in 2006 as it seemed so different from his absurdist comedies, such as Fuddy Meers and Wonder of the World. Yet, the playwright has peopled his plays with characters displaced in their lives trying to seek clarity. In Rabbit Hole, it's the perfect couple in their perfect world that gets shattered in one moment; they wake up to a world where everything's different, and try to find their way out. It's this different world that inspires the title from the story of Alice who fell down the rabbit hole and then searches to find her way back. Rabbit Hole is a quiet and compassionate anatomy of grief, a map of the depth of feeling and the vacuum of loss that many have experienced. The loss may never stop hurting, but hope can heal wounds.
Becca (Andrea Spitz) and Howie (Andrew Greenleaf) are the couple who seem to have everything until their 4-year-old son Danny is accidentally killed by a car. Becca's family surrounds her - her spirited sister Izzy (Audrey Cefaly) and her advice giving mother Nat (Sally Cusenza). Becca and Howie struggle differently in their own routines with how to cope with their grief which is disrupted when Izzy announces she is pregnant and the teenager Jason (Stephen Sanow) who drove the car that killed their son appears at the house wanting to talk with them. Tempered with humor, Rabbit Hole is a human drama beyond words.

The production team includes Bridget Muehlberger (Stage Manager), Josh Greenwald (Assistant Director), Andrew Greenleaf (Set Design), Amy Narron (Light Design), Rachel Feola (Costume Design), Kevin Garrett (Sound Design), and Sonya Okin (Props/Set Dressing).

The Stage's 2009-2010 "Appearances Can Be Deceiving!" season continues with George Bernard Shaw's enchanting Pygmalion (June 4-June 27), and the provocative Fat Pig by Neil LaBute (July 16-Aug. 8)
