Julie Lewis' SMOLDER Runs At The Strand Theater In Baltimore 4/9-4/26
By: Gabrielle Sierra
The Strand Theater invites you to its final production of the 2008-2009 season! Smolder is the final play in an entire first season dedicated to new plays by emerging playwrights. The Strand Theater is very excited to feature playwright Julie Lewis, whose last play Jarvis Legend's Borrowed Skin was featured in the 2008 Baltimore Playwright's Festival.
Smolder examines the life of Sylvia, an executive who caters to no one but herself. After an accident leaves Sylvia scarred, her building's superintendent, and former admirer, Reno, is left as her only contact with the outside world. As her dependency on Reno grows, Sylvia's previous life as a publicist becomes dimmer. Smolder juxtaposes scenes from her bright, self-absorbed past with scenes from her dark and self-deprecating present. We see that Reno's former obsession with loving Sylvia turns to resentment, as adoration turns to torture.Thursday, April 9th at 8pm ($5 Preview Night)
