HCAC Announces New Actor Professional Development Series

The Howard County Arts Council announces a new workshop seriesspecifically designed for the actor who would like to improve their chances of gettingcast in productions. Sept. 27, 2010 7 to 8 pm - The Headshot and Resume: Participants pre-submit headshots and resumes for review.

The reviewers discuss the various submissions andtheir responses to them. Top submissions will be shown to the audience and will bediscussed. The panel will share insights about the crafting of an actor resume andanswer questions.

Oct. 4, 2010 7 pm to 9 pm - The Audition: The reviewers conduct a preliminaryaudition and give immediate feedback as time allows. The reviewers will discuss theauditions and answer questions.

Oct. 11, 2010 7 pm to 9 pm - The Callback: The reviewers conduct a call-backaudition and give immediate feedback as time allows.

The reviewers will discuss the auditions and answer questions.The Actor Professional Development Series brings together three prominent theatredirectors as the series review panel: 
Danielle A. Drakes is the Founder and Producing Artistic Director of the Hegira. As aperformer, she has worked with Ford's Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, CENTERSTAGE, CATF, Discovery Theatre, and Imagination Stage.

Directing credits include Paige In Full, Lions of Industry-Mothers of Invention, Deep Belly Beautiful, StopKiss, Southern Girls, and Late Bus to Mecca. Danielle is a member of Actors' EquityAssociation and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.

Ian Gallanar is the Founding Artistic Director of the Chesapeake ShakespeareCompany. He has served as Artistic Director for the National Theatre for Children,Repertory Theater of America and Minnesota Shakespeare in the Park. He is also aplaywright and his plays for children have been performed for over a million kids acrossthe country. Ian is a recipient of the Helen Hayes Tribute Award and The Telly Award.

Jason Loewith is Executive Director of the National New Play Network. He wonLucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle, Jeff and After Dark Awards for Best New Musical forAdding Machine: A Musical, which he co-wrote with composer Joshua Schmidt. Heproduced the world premiere production which went on to a six-month commercial runOff-Broadway in 2008, winning four OBIE Awards for direction, design andperformance.

Series participants are asked to submit four sets of headshots and resumes as if theywere auditioning for Luigi Pirandello's play Six Characters in Search of an Author.Participation fee is $90 and includes all three workshops. For those who would like toobserve but not participate, a $30 observer fee is required.
