Fun Company Presents Bi-lingual Production Of EL VIAJE DE BEATRIZ

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) family theatre, The Fun Company will present El Viaje de Beatriz (Beatriz's Journey). When Beatriz slams into her room to escape a fight with her parents, she turns to Beatrizita, a doll made for her by her recently deceased abuela, for comfort. Beatrizita magically comes to life and sends Beatriz searching for her abuela in Dreamland with nothing but a blank map to guide her. A wondrous adventure begins and along the way she discovers regalitos (little gifts) that her abuela's kindness instilled within her.

El Viaje de Beatriz is a touching tale that explores love and family in a multicultural setting. Audiences will learn about Hispanic traditions in a fun and engaging way as they follow Beatriz along on her journey in this bilingual show. Director Daniel Valentín-Morales was thrilled at the chance to introduce viewers to MET's production. "As the demographics of our community continue to change, and as new folks with different cultures, languages and ways of interpreting the opaque and sometimes unfathomable tenants of the American dream resettle in our communities, an English-Spanish bilingual production such as 'El Viaje de Beatriz' becomes integral in creating bridges between cultures to ensure newcomers are welcomed with love and understanding."

The El Viaje de Beatriz production team includes: Director Daniel Valentín-Morales, Stage Manager Rachel Smith, Assistant Stage Manager Barbara Stultz, Scenic Designer Matt Vance, Lighting Designer Doug Grove, Costume Designer Stephanie Hyder, Sound Designer Lauren Johnson and Props Designer Emily Loecken.

The cast includes: Jasmine Mangrum as Beatriz, Aubrie Gadra as Beatrizita/Curi/Avanzado, Prince Mills as Tree/Babs/Izquirda, Ivan Dais as Tree/Paca/King/Rey Miller, Najee Banks as Father/Tree/Mortimer/Derecha, and Lia Seltzer as Mother/Tree/Zeno/Queen/Reina.

El Viaje de Beatriz opens on Saturday, February 2nd and runs until Sunday, February 24th every Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $12. Tickets may be purchased by phone at (301) 694-4744, online at marylandensemble.org or in person at the MET box office. Come be entranced by this mystical bilingual journey of a lifetime.
