Children's Playhouse of Maryland to Present STEEL MAGNOLIAS

By:

Children's Playhouse of Maryland, Inc. presents Robert Harling's dramatic comedy Steel Magnolias at 1 p.m., Oct. 29 and 30 and Nov. 5 and 6. Performances will be held in the Administration Building Lecture Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard. The Nov. 5 performance will be interpreted into American Sign Language by students from the Interpreter Preparation Program at CCBC Catonsville. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased in advance by calling the CCBC Box Office, 443-840-ARTS (2787) Tuesday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or online at www.cpmarts.org. Tickets will also be available at the door, space permitting. Group tickets are available.

CPM's production of "Steel Magnolias" features an ensemble cast of six student actors from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Harford County: Olivia Winter of Cockeysville, Md. (Shelby), Colleen Beyer of Fallston, Md. (Ouiser), Nyani Hawkins of Joppa, Md. (Truvy), Sophia Possidente of Baltimore, Md. (Annelle), Emily Davis of Baltimore, Md. (Clairee) and Alexis Arthurof Nottingham, Md. (M'Lynn).

Much of the action of the play Steel Magnolias takes place in a beauty salon in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana, which is owned by Truvy Jones and frequented by a diverse group of Southern women. An eclectic mix of personalities and circumstances, these "steel magnolias" include society matron Clairee Belcher, grouchy widow Ouiser Boudreaux, career woman M'Lynn Eatenton and her daughter Shelby and Truvy's new shop assistant Annelle Dupuy-Desoto. As the play begins, they are all excited about Shelby's upcoming nuptials. However, the years after that happy day test these Southern "magnolias" as they face serious crises together with humor and steel.

The CCBC Essex Administration Building Lecture Hall is a wheelchair-accessible facility. Please request any accommodations at the time of ticket purchase. For directions to the campus, visit www.ccbcmd.edu. Parking is available in Lot 4 at CCBC Essex.

For more information, contact the Box Office at 443-840-ARTS (2787), or the CPM Administrative Office at 443-840-2426.

Children's Playhouse of Maryland, Inc. is a not-for-profit community theatre dedicated to youth performers ages 18 and under.
