Center Stage Announces Monthly Installment of WRIGHT NOW PLAY LATER
By: A.A. Cristi
In October, Center Stage launched a spin-off of the already successful Wright-Right-Now micro-commissioning series, which puts playwrights in lobbies and on the street to produce patron-prompted short plays on demand. The group dubbed the new, monthly, social media-driven project Wright Now Play Later (WNPL).
This month's WNPL will take place Nov. 14-17, and there is a new slate of playwrights signed on to participate.
For November, the company has chosen three teams of two playwrights each. The playwright teams are:
Here's how WNPL works:
- Monday: Playwrights take public prompts via Facebook and Twitter. The playwrights have 24 hours to turn out short plays based on these prompts.
- Wednesday: The public votes for their favorite play from each of that month's participating Wrights.
- Thursday: Actors rehearse and perform the plays in pop-up locations in Baltimore. These performances-planned to take place at1:00 p.m.-will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.
- Each month features new playwrights, new actors, a new performance venue and brand new plays.
