Baltimore Academy Of Magic Expands Programming

The Baltimore Academy of Magic, a school for aspiring young magicians based in Baltimore, Maryland, will expand programming, beginning in February, 2019, to include group magic classes at Motor House in Station North.

The Baltimore Academy of Magic was established by area magicians Brian Kehoe and Annie Montone (who perform as "The Encounter") in 2017. BAM's mission is to teach the art of stage magic while improving student confidence, independence, and focus. Their "Showcase Program", the school's most popular, is a twelve week course where students learn how to perform stage-sized illusions, create a character, write a script, choose a costume, and present in front of an audience.

"As far as I know, we're unique. There's no one doing quite what we're doing, and it's right here in Baltimore," says Annie Montone, one of BAM's founders.

The school has been so popular that Montone and Kehoe have expanded to offer group magic classes, which will be held at Motor House in the Station North Arts District.

"We are so excited to finally begin offering group magic classes. Magicians teach private lessons all the time, and there are magic camps, but to be able to attend a school where you can learn from one another and immediately apply your craft and perform? That's something special. It's truly magical, " adds Kehoe.

Parent reactions to BAM's programs have been very positive. "The kids were really very professional. It was impressive to watch!" says Roger Shere-Wolfe, who's son participated in the Showcase Program for the past two seasons.

Annie Montone is the co-founder of The Encounter, a magic duo that promotes teamwork, empowerment, and gender equality in stage magic. She is a writer, performer, critic, and magician in the Baltimore area. Her work has been praised as "delightfully immersive" (HOAX, The Encounter), "highly entertaining all the way to its logically creepy end" (Planchette, The Encounter), "[an] exquisitely beautiful fairytale" (The Sorrow Message, DNA Theatre), and writing that "saves the show if it doesn't outright steal it" (140 Characters, Salt Luck Arts). Annie is also the co-founder of the Baltimore Academy of Magic, a school for aspiring magicians.

Brian M. Kehoe is a professional magician, actor, teacher, consultant, and sound designer in the Baltimore area. He is also the co-founder of The Encounter, a magic duo that promotes teamwork, empowerment, and gender equality in stage magic. Here's what critics have to say about his performances: "Kehoe draws you in with intense eye contact" (HOAX, The Encounter), "Remarkably engaging, if a little unnerving" (Planchette, The Encounter), and "facial expressions worth a wealth of dialogue" (Red, JCT). Brian is also the co-founder of the Baltimore Academy of Magic, a school for aspiring magicians.
