Adventure Theatre MTC Secures $250K for Glen Echo Renovation, Launches 75th Anniversary Campaign

The Maryland District 16 Delegation has secured $250,000 in legislative bond funding to support much-needed renovations to Adventure Theatre MTC's Glen Echo, Maryland theatre and lobby spaces. District 16 representatives Delegate Sarah Wolek and Maryland State Senator Sara Love led the effort in their respective chambers, with additional support from Delegates Teresa Woorman and Marc Korman.

In anticipation of its 2026/27 season—marking ATMTC’s 75th Anniversary—the organization is launching a matching campaign tied to this capital funding. The 75th Anniversary Matching Campaign aims to raise an additional $250,000 through August 2027 to support productions and programming that have served six generations of the DMV community.

“We are lucky Adventure Theatre MTC calls Bethesda home. It’s a place where children can develop their confidence and creativity,” said Delegate Sarah Wolek. “The grant funding we secured this legislative session will support the modernization of their space so future generations of young actors can continue to find joy on stage.”

Senator Sara Love added, “Adventure Theatre MTC plays a vital role in our District by inspiring young people through the arts. The District 16 Delegation is proud to support their work by securing funding that will make much-needed improvements to their facilities. We want to help ensure that this organization can continue serving our community for years to come.”

A partner in Glen Echo Park since 1971, ATMTC has not renovated its theatre and lobby spaces since 2006. While repairs were made following the 2018 fire, those updates focused primarily on office and rehearsal areas, leaving the theatre and lobby largely untouched.

The $250,000 in funding will support several key upgrades, including restroom renovations to better accommodate family audiences, conversion of the box office into a dedicated “Quiet Room” for overstimulated patrons, and the installation of a new electrical grid with updated lighting and sound systems. Renovations will begin with theatre seating upgrades and reupholstering in September 2026, ahead of the 75th Anniversary season.

Founded in 1951 by a group of parents, guardians, and children, ATMTC has reached millions through its affordable, high-quality professional theatre productions and arts education programs. The matching campaign will help sustain the artistic and educational initiatives that have made ATMTC a cultural cornerstone for generations of DMV residents.

Many audience members experience their first live theatre production at ATMTC, gaining early exposure to the transformative power of the arts. As the organization looks toward the future, it invites the community to invest in arts education and programming to inspire the next six generations.
