AMERICAN SON Will Be Performed by UpStage Artists in Beltsville
Christopher Demos-Brown's drama will be staged at Emmanuel United Methodist Church
UpStage Artists will present American Son, the gripping and emotionally charged drama by Christopher Demos-Brown. This compelling play examines the complexities of race, policing, and family through a deeply human lens, offering audiences an intimate look at a mother's search for answers when her son goes missing.
Set in a Florida police station, American Son unfolds over the course of a tense night as two parents-divided by race, privilege, and perspective-confront a system that reveals uncomfortable truths. As the story builds, the play challenges audiences to reflect on communication, empathy, and the realities faced by many in America today.
Performances will run June 5-14 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11416 Cedar Lane, Beltsville, MD 20705.
Following the June 6 matinee, audiences are invited to stay for a special talkback with the cast and director, offering a chance to engage in meaningful dialogue about the themes of the play and its impact.
UpStage Artists continues its mission to bring accessible, thought-provoking theater to the community, and American Son stands as a powerful example of storytelling that sparks conversation and connection.
