The new American musical Allegiance officially opened last night, November 8, at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street, starring Tony and Olivier Award winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables) in her long-awaited return to Broadway, 'Star Trek' icon George Takei in his Broadway debut at age 78, and Broadway and 'Glee' star Telly Leung. Allegiance is the vibrant and unforgettable story of one family's resilience in the face of seemingly-insurmountable odds, inspired by Takei's real-life experience as a Japanese American during World War II.  BroadwayWorld was there for the full night of festivities and you can check out photos from the curtain call below!

La MaMa just honored film producer Joy Tomchin for her activism on behalf of the LGBTQ communities; Donn Russell for his commitment to and support of nontraditional theatre; and Roberta Uno for her leadership in philanthropy and cultural diversity at the annual La MaMa Gala, last night at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.).

Today, Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Rockefeller Foundation president Judith Rodin, NYC Department of Education Chancellor Carmen Fariña and Gilder Lehrman executive director Lesley Herrmann announced an educational partnership to provide 20,000 NYC public school students with the opportunity to see Hamilton on Broadway and integrate the show into classroom studies. This educational initiative is made possible through a $1.46 million grant by The Rockefeller Foundation to Gilder Lehrman.
