As we enter the new year, it is important to remember those we have lost in the preceding twelve months. Who shared their gifts with both our community and the world and whose mark will forever be left on all those lucky enough to have witnessed them in action.

Lin-Manuel Miranda dropped by Hamilton yesterday with pals Josh Groban and Cate Blanchett to judge the all-important holiday door-decorating contest, and BroadwayWorld was there to capture all the highlights. 

Baseball legend Derek Jeter visited Hamilton yesterday, and BroadwayWorld was there to capture photos of the athlete meeting Hamilton creator of both the musical and the title role, Lin-Manuel Miranda; original cast members Christopher Jackson and Thayne Jasperson; current Aaron Burr, Brandon Victor Dixon, and more!

International superstar Mel B, 'Scary Spice' of the iconic Spice Girls and judge on 'America's Got Talent,' will star in the show for an 8-week limited engagement starting Wednesday, December 28, 2016 and through Sunday, February 19, 2017. Now in its 20th year on Broadway, Chicago plays at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St., NYC).

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the world premiere studio recording of Freaky Friday, the new musical based on the beloved novel by Mary Rodgers and two hit Disney films, will be released by Walt Disney Records in early 2017. The studio recording can be pre-ordered here.

Fences, starring Tony winners Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, doesn't arrive in movie theatres until December 25, but the cast just gathered last night the celebrate the NYC premiere. BroadwayWorld was there for the special night, and you can check out photos below!

Norm Lewis begins his 2nd Holiday Residency at Feinstein's/54 Below on December 19th, for SIX performances, through Christmas Eve. This year, he's calling it I'll Be Home For Christmas. Like last year, he will be joined by a special guest each night, and it promises to be the hottest holiday bash in the  heart of Manhattan. Norm will be singing holiday favorites, putting his unique spin on material and doing some career favorites that have come to make him one of the most sought-after leading men on Broadway. Come celebrate with Norm and his talented friends. We've got a swingin' band, led by Joseph Joubert and the party, once again, is directed by Richard Jay-Alexander. Just like last year … there will be plenty of surprises!

#EduHam is a series of HAMILTON Wednesday matinees made available to New York City schools with a high concentration of students from low-income families for the ticket price of only $10. This educational partnership, made possible through a $1.46 million grant by The Rockefeller Foundation, is not only providing 20,000 NYC public school students with the opportunity to see HAMILTON on Broadway, but provides educational material by Gilder Lehrman to incorporate material from the musical into the American History curriculum.
